I have a (large) number of folders A, B, C...
Each of the folders contains a makefile to make a variety of things; other than having a makefile, the subfolders have nothing in common with each other.

The containing folder has a makefile of the following form:
Code:
default: A.dir B.dir ...

A.dir:
   cd $*
   nmake /nologo
   cd ..

B.dir:
   cd $*
   nmake /nologo
   cd ..

etc...
As all the rules are identical it would be better to replace this with something of the form:

Code:
default: A.dir B.dir ...

*.dir:
   cd $*
   nmake /nologo
   cd ..
Sadly, NMAKE doesn't allow wildcards in targets.
Is there a way to get this effect and avoid having to copy the same thing over and over?
