Re: Using web services from MFC

Facebook uses C++ to host their website,
I may be wrong on this, but I thought I had heard that Facebook is written in PHP and then this is 'compiled' into c++ that is actually run for performance reasons
All advice is offered in good faith only. All my code is tested (unless stated explicitly otherwise) with the latest version of Microsoft Visual Studio (using the supported features of the latest standard) and is offered as examples only - not as production quality. I cannot offer advice regarding any other c/c++ compiler/IDE or incompatibilities with VS. You are ultimately responsible for the effects of your programs and the integrity of the machines they run on. Does that detail matter for the purpose of this discussion?

Cool! Is this the joke of the month? I may be wrong also, of course.

No, It wasn't a joke - and I was right, although they don't any more. Facebook wrote a php to c++ compiler called HipHop. Facebook switched all its production servers to using HipHop in early 2010. Since 2013 they now use a JIT compilation engine for php - also developed by Facebook.

    See
