    [RESOLVED] vs2017 vs2010 ado bug?

    i am porting a vs2010 project on windows y to a vs2017 project on
windows 10. going smoothly until an ado connection to an msaccess
db that worked on vs2010 does not work on vs2017.

the issue: in order to open the ms access db with ado i construct the
db name as _bstr_t DBName = _T("c:\\SomeDir\\SomeDB.accdb") and use it to further buld a ConnectionString that works under VS2010 but not under VS2017.

I debug both pgms on diff computers. when I observe DBName in the debugger with VS2010 i see "c:\SomeDir\SomeDB.accdb" and i can open the ms accesss db. when I observe DBName in the debugger with VS2017 i see "c:\\SomeDir\\SomeDB.accdb" and i cannot open the ms accesss db.

why is VS2017 not displaying the same values in the debugger and worse why is it not opening the ms access db with well settled code???

as a side note, the use of "\" in the file names is performing as it
    should under both VS versions.

appreciate any insight you have. would even consider putting myself at your disposal to participate in a full frontal assault on MS if this is more of their stupid %$#*&. just kidding.

    thx - j

    https://stackoverflow.com/questions/...al-c-not-c-cli

has a similar problem and suggest adding "User ID=admin;" to the connection string but this did not work form either using "admin" or my username.

apologies for the false alarm - ado was not installed on the new computer - it is downloadable from ms and solved the problem
