Accessing Registry files from Dead system
Hi,
Is there any way to recover the Registry files from Hard Drive which can be connected as Slave but can not be bootable ? I connected Hard Drive as slave to Win XP Pro. Later, I removed it and connected to a different PC and tried to Boot but it said OS not found ! Is it because I connected it as slave to XP ? Will it alter the boot information ?
How can be reg files opened using a Notepad (or some other) for seeing the Registry contents ?
Thanks
Vikas

hook the drive up as slave, pop the xp cd in (or 2000, whichever it is), and boot into the recovery console. Run the programs fixmbr and fixboot. That should solve your problem, if not, there's a tool called offline registry editor boot disk, it's a linux boot disk that can read/write ntfs. I don't recall the exact site but a google search on that name should turn it up. Good luck.
