Installing MS SQL Server 2000 on 2003 Server
Hi,
I am trying to install MS SQL Server 2000 standard edition on a Windows 2003 Server and I get the error "SQL Server 2000 SP2 and belowis not supported by this version of Windows". Since I have Service Pack 3A (Standard Edition, Personal Edition and Service Pack 3A cam as a set of 3 CDs), I selected "Continue" and it install went all the way through and attempted to start the server, but fails. I then try to install SP3A and it doesn't find the server -- presumably the install failed. It was suggested to me that I make sure MDAC 2.8 is installed, which I did, but it made no difference.
I am unfortunately not terribly Microsoft literate (I work mainly on the UNIX side of the house), so I could easily be missing the obvious. Any ideas about what might be going on?
Thanks,
Rob

I just did the same thing this morning, and if you load service pack 3 right after installing SQL 2000 on the server it should work. I just did it. Do not reboot the server between installs.

Re: Installing MS SQL Server 2000 on 2003 Server
I didn't reboot, and I tried that. Problem is that the installer for SP3a terminates because it doesn't think that MS SQL Server is installed at all. That's what's killing me.
Thanks,
Rob
