Does anyone have any knowledge of lossless image compression?

Do you know if you can:

- Convert an image to YUV
- Separate it into three component images
- Save each as PNG

If you can, do you get favorable compression for each of the images and can you combine them together again?

Anyone know of anything that exists to do this?
