Dushehra, also known as Vijayadashmi is one of the main hindu festivals.
It is celebrated to mark the victory of good (Lord Ram) over evil (Demon king Ravana) as per the Ramayana, the mythological epic.

I guess I am late.. Anyways, happy Dussera to all. Though I miss the all the festivities here in US, it was nevertheless, a pleasant one.

Dear Max, its too early to say Happy Diwali. Diwali falls 20 days from Dushehra. i.e. on 1st Nov. Any way thanx for the wishes.

Ejaz wat u want to know.there is a simple story about this that Shri ram killed the Rawan that day. so we celebrate dasera for victory of ram on rawan and on Depawali (Diwali) he came back to his home so we celebrate diwali for that.and people would like to lite candel and lamps that day to make it a memorable moment.
