How do you add a 'Virtical Grey Bar' to the Rich Edit View like in msvc?

I am wondering how do go about inserting a grey virtical bar to the rich edit view, in an MDI application. Just like MSVC, for selecting text..

if anyone has any code snipets of this, it would be very helpful...
