Dear friends
a very small queation. I am trying to search "."(dot) in a string which is an IP address through search() function in java script but it is not returning me right index. How to do it .
The code is as follows :
var IP = "10.0.1.140"
var index= IP.search(".")
it is always returns 0

First of all javascript is different from java. There is a seperate forum for javascript.

indexOf() function, se the link for detail

saddysans is correct. Use the indexOf() method.
Also, you should not declare a variable with the name "index" as that is a reserved word in JavaScript.
