About 6 months ago, the old PC was dropped and we had to get it repaired. Ever since then, whenever the button is switched on to turn the PC on, the CD-Rom drive opens. Anyone have any idea why it does this?

it's like "Feed me" :)
may be it's looking for a bootable disk in CD Rom... please check your BIOS for BOOT option, set it to your HDD...
Unplug the whole computer. Pop out the BIOS battery then the RAM. After that, disconnect all cables to the CD-ROM. Wait 10 seconds and then put the battery back in and then the RAM then the CD-ROM cables. Plug it all back in and then tell me what happens.
Thanks, but I didn't want to know how to stop it - I wanted to know why it happens...
Glitch with the ROM. I can't fully explain it but it can easily be reset. Did you stop it?
No I didn't bother trying to sort it out. Does make a difference from the drive efusing to open.Quote:
