message boards that are more for beginners
I am basically a newbie to programming. I'm kinda acquainted with Liberty Basic v4 but i want to learn more about other programming languages that are able to create complex programs, like C++ and other languages. What I am asking for is suggestions for other message boards that are created just for people like me, Newbies to programming. I hope to become knowledgeable enough to participate in complex conversations with other programmers on this board soon! Thanks!
Re: message boards that are more for beginners
Message boards aren't really that well suited to beginning a language or starting to program. Simply because of their nature of ASK and REPLY. See you need to play with the language a bit before you realise what the advantages / disadvantages of that language are. You can't really learn that though Q&A.
To start learning a laguage it is much better to work through tutorials. These give one a bit good initial feel for the language... then once you are actually stuck on some problem you can use the Q&A of a message board.
I may be wrong... but that is my opinion
Re: message boards that are more for beginners
I agree, its kinda hard to reply to this question: "How do you program in x language?"
Go through tutorials, and read some books on it.
Personally I like books more than tutorials, they just, for the most part, explain more in depth than a tutorial will. The downside of books though is that they can be pretty pricey.
Re: message boards that are more for beginners
Yeah... good points. Books are generally better to learn from... but as you say SOOOoooo.... expensive. That said, if you get a GOOD book then it can be worth every penny.

Now I've finally been enlightened......and it's all CodeGuru's fault that I fail to become a programmer! So, this is the reason, finally! Now, I know why I never seem to get anywhere years ago, even though I spend every single hour trying to learn how to program.
Yes, Pink is totally right. Trying to learn programming through message boards is an un-orthodox way to learn programming, because of their nature of "ask-and-reply", and in the end, you never spend enough time trying to figure out everything yourself(which is the best way).
For example, me. I learnt much of Visual C++ through CodeGuru. Whenever I'm stuck, I ask a question and got spoon-fed with answers.
In the end, 3 years later, even though I'm way ahead of newbie programmers, my programming skills still remained at the same level and never got anywhere further. And worse, because my foundation wasn't strong and yet I managed to reach more advanced programming levels (through Q-and-A here in CodeGuru), I realized that everytime when I try to write a workable program, I would actually be refering back to the very fundamentals like the concept of arrays or the theories of link lists and C++ templates, algorithms etc.
In short, get your programming foundation really firm and solid first, and make sure you can write mid-end programs in Visual C++ before you ask questions here, or you'll become another Xeon.
Now I know where I gone wrong, but it's too late.:D
Good day,
Xeon.

Thanks Xeon, that explains that program you made us test years back

U fool! Only now are you telling the truth! Back then, I remembered your response was "It's great, Xeon! A nice program!" and "Beautiful graphics and nice features!".:rolleyes:
By the way, you're still using the avatar I created for you, eh? :D:thumb:
Good day!
Xeon.

How about that
BTW Speaking of Avatars I have seen a Pinky somewhere and I was wondering . . . should I revert to The Brain :D

Well, I remembered back then, I made a picture of The Brain for you, but after sometime, you prefer a more original logo. But yes, The Brain avatar is better. :D:D:D
Good day,
Xeon.

Ooooh, this could get ugly!
