There are many here among us
Who feel that life is but a joke
But you and I we've been through that
And this is not our fate
So let us start talking falsely now
And the hour is getting late
All along the watchtower, princes kept the view
While all the women came and went, barefoot servents too
Outside in the cold distance, a Wildcat did growl
Two riders were approachin' and the wind began to howl
All Along The Watchtower - Jimi Hendrix(Bob Dylan cover)
One of my favorite songs.
Re: Favorite lyrics from a song
Currently, one of my favorite songs is "Look What You've Done" By Jet. These are the first three stanza of the song. I like these lyrics because it rings true, especially those that i've highlighted. Plus, I like the way how he sang this song. :D ;)
Quote:
Take my photo off the wall
If it just won't sing for you
'Cause all that's left has gone away
And there's nothing there for you to prove
Oh, look what you've done
You've made a fool of everyone
Oh well, it seems like such fun
Until you lose what you had won
Give me back my point of view
'Cause I just can't think for you
I can hardly hear you say
What should I do, well you choose
Re: Favorite lyrics from a song
Get a load of me,
Get a load of yu,
Walking down the street
And I hardly know you
It's just like we were meant to be
Holding hands with you,
When we're out at night,
Got a girlfriend
You say it isn't right,
And I've got someone waiting too.
The problem is, this is just the beginning
We're already wet and we're gonna go swimming
Chorus:
Why can't I breathe whenever I think about you
Why can't I speak whenever I talk about you
Its inevitable... it's a fact that we're gonna get down to it
So tell me...
Why can't I breathe whenever i think about you
Isn't this the best part of breaking up
Finding someone else you can't get enough of
Someone who wants to be with you too
Its an itch we know we are gonna scratch
Gonna take a while for this egg to hatch
But wouldn't it be beautiful?
Here we go we are at the beginning
we haven't ****ed yet, but my head's spinning
Chorus:
Why can't I breathe whenever I think about you
Why can't I speak whenever I talk about you
It's inevitable, it's a fact that we're gonna get down to it
So tell me
Why can't I breathe whenever I think about you
I'd love for you to make me wonder
Where it's goin'
I'd love for you to pull me under
Somethin's growin'
For this that we can control
Baby I am dyin'
Why can't I breathe whenever I think about you
Why can't I speak whenever talk about you
Chorus
whenever i think about you (x4)

Won't Give In Lyrics - Finn brothers
You call me up and I'll say a few words
But I'll try not to speak too long
Please to be kind and I'll try to explain
I'll probably get it all wrong
What does it mean when you promise someone
That no matter how hard or whatever may come
It means that I won't give in, won't give in, won't give in
'Cause everyone I love is here
Take me home. Take me home
Once in a while I return to the fold
With people I call my own
Even if time is just a flicker of light
And we all have to die alone
What does it mean when you belong to someone
When you're born with a name, when you carry it on
It means that I won't give in, won't give in, won't give in
'Cause everyone I love is here
All at once, and I'll show you how to get here
Come on now, come on now, can you feel it, I can see it in ya
Come on now, come on now, reveal it, turn around won't ya
The right time, the right place, right now, turn around
A chance is made, a chance is lost, I carry myself to the edge of the earth
It means that I won't give in, won't give in, won't give in
'Cause everyone I love is here
Say it once, just say it, and disappear

Greenday - She (the title is about a woman, but there's more than that..just look at it ;) :D)
Quote:
She...
She screams in silence
A sullen riot penetrating through her mind
Wai-ting for a sign
To smash the silence with the brick of self-control
Are you locked up in a world
Thats been planned out for you
Are you feeling like a social tool without a use
Scream at me until my ears bleed
I'm taking heed just for you
She...
She's figured out
All her doubts were someone else's point of view
Wa-king up this time
To smash the silence with the brick of self-control
Are you locked up in a world
Thats been planned out for you
Are you feeling like a social tool without a use
Scream at me until my ears bleed
I'm taking heed just for you
YAHHHHHHHHHH!!!
one of my fav. songs....Into the Valley by Skid.... :thumb: :)
Quote:
Into the Valley
Betrothed and divine
Realisations no virtue
But who can define
Why soldiers go marching
Those masses a line
This disease is catching
From victory to stone
Ahoy! Ahoy! Land, sea and sky
Ahoy! Ahoy! Boy, man and soldier
Ahoy! Ahoy! Deceived and then punctured
Ahoy! Ahoy! Long may they die
Out of concealment
Blank and stark eyed
Why so uncertain
This culture deceives
Prophesised, brainwashed
Tomorrow's demise
All systems failing
The placards unroll
Ahoy! Ahoy! Land, sea and sky
Ahoy! Ahoy! Boy, man and soldier
Ahoy! Ahoy! Deceived and then punctured
Ahoy! Ahoy! Long may they die
Time for the audit
The gathering trial
A collectors dilemma
Repositioned and filed
Re: Favorite lyrics from a song
I think this was sung by Queen, and one of the song in Ella Enchanted :D
Can anybody find me
Somebody to... LOVE
Each morning I wake and tired a little
Can't barely stand on feet
I look in the mirror and cry
Look what your doing to me
and I forgot the rest :D
Re: Favorite lyrics from a song
All my bags are packed,
I'm ready to go,
I'm standing here,
Outside your door,
I hate to wake you up,
to say goodbye....
...
So kiss me and smile for me
tell me you'll wait for me,
Hold me like you'll never let me go
Cause I'm leaving on a Jet plane
Don't know when I'll be back again
Oh babe I hate to go...
A really touchy one...
Re: Favorite lyrics from a song
I don't think there was ever written a greater song than John Lennon's Imagine:
Quote:
Imagine there's no heaven,
It's easy if you try,
No hell below us,
Above us only sky,
Imagine all the people
living for today...
Imagine there's no countries,
It isnt hard to do,
Nothing to kill or die for,
No religion too,
Imagine all the people
living life in peace...
Imagine no possesions,
I wonder if you can,
No need for greed or hunger,
A brotherhood of man,
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...
You may say Im a dreamer,
but Im not the only one,
I hope some day you'll join us,
And the world will live as one.

Ozzy Osbourne's I Just Want You
Quote:
There are no unlockable doors
There are no unwinable wars
There are no unrightable wrongs
Or unsignable songs
There are no unbeatable odds
There are no believable gods
There are no unnameable names
Shall I say it again, yeah
There are no impossible dreams
There are no invisible seams
Each night when the day is through
I don’t ask much
I just want you...
There are no uncriminal crimes
There are no unrhymable rhymes
There are no identical twins or
Forgivable sins
There are no incurable ills
There are no unkillable thrills
One thing and you know it’s true,
I don’t ask much
I just want you
I just want you
I just want you
I just want you
I’m sick and tired of bein’ sick and tired
I used to go to bed so high and wired, yeah - yeah, yeah, yeah
I think I’ll buy myself some plastic water
I guess I should have married lennon’s daughter, yeah - yeah, yeah, yeah
There are no unachievable goals
There are no unsaveable souls
No legitimate kings or queens, do
You know what I mean? yeah
There are no indisputable truths
And there ain’t no fountain of youth
Each night when the day is through,
I don’t ask much
I just want you

One song that comes to my mind is Bob Seger's Turn the Page
A very good interpretation/dissection of this song is here for those interested.

One more that's very touching.. Cats in the cradle - Cat Stevens to be covered later by Ugly Kid Joe..
Quote:
A child arrived just the other day
Came to the world in the usual way
But there were planed to catch, and bills to pay
He learned to walk while I was away
He was talking before I knew It
And as he grew
He said, "Im gonna be like you, Dad you know Im gonna be like
you"
(chorus)
And the cats in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man in the moon
When you comin home son I dont know when, We'll get together
then
You know we'll have a good time then.
My son turned ten just the other day
He said "thanks for the ball dad, come on lets play
can you teach me to throw?"
I said "Not today, Ive got alot to do"
He said "Thats okay"
He walked away and he smiled and he said
"you know Im gonna be like you, dad
you know Im gonna be like you......"
(chorus)
He came from college just the other day
So much like a man I just had to say
"Son Im proud of you, can you sit for a while?"
He shook his head, and he said with a smile
"What Im feeling like dad, is to borrow the car keys
See you later, can I have them please?"
(chorus)
Ive long since retired, my son has moved away
I called him up just the other day
I said "Id like to see you if you dont mind"
He said "Id love to dad If I could find the time.
You see my new jobs a hassle, and the kids have the flu.
But Its sure nice talking to you, dad, Its been sure nice
talking to you........"
And as he hung up the phone It had occured to me
He'd grown up just like me, my boy, was just like
me..............
(chorus)
Another one of my favorites, Working Man , written by Rush .. Guess lots here can associate with this one:
Quote:
I get up at seven, yeah
And I go to work at nine
I got no time for livin’
Yes, I’m workin’ all the time
It seems to me
I could live my life
A lot better than I think I am
I guess that’s why they call me
They call me the workin’ man
They call me the workin’ man
I guess that’s what I am
I get home at five o’clock
And I take myself out a nice, cold beer
Always seem to be wond’rin’
Why there’s nothin’ goin’ down here
It seems to me
I could live my life
A lot better than I think I am
I guess that’s why they call me
They call me the workin’ man
They call me the workin’ man
I guess that’s what I am
Well they call me the workin’ man
I guess that’s what I am
Re: Favorite lyrics from a song
Cats in the Cradle is one of my all time favorite songs. My neighbor was really good friends with Harry Chapin, who was the guy that wrote the song, they went to college together. Sadly Chapin died in an accident in 1981.
And I also love Rush, alot of my friends make fun of me for it, don't know why, they are amazing.

Troubles will come, and they will pass
Well find a waomen, you'll find love
And don't forget son, there is someone up above
(chorus)
And be a simple kind of man
Be something you love and understand
Baby be a simple kind of man
Oh won't you do this for me son if you can
Forget your lust, or the rich man's gold
All that you need, is in your soul
And you can do this oh baby, if you try
All that I want for you my son is to be satisfied
(chorus)
Oh don't you worry, you'll find yourself
Follow your heart, and nothing else
And you can do this, oh babe, if you try
All that I want for you my son is to be satisfied

(chorus while fading out)
Beautiful song by a great band.

Hm.. wonder why ? Maybe because, young guys like you prefer thrash ;) Well, Rush is a great band.. They were too progressive for their times.. They are great composers, lyricists and performers.. Niel Peart is regarded one of the greatest drummers..

Really!?!?! Its about time, they are one of the best bands I've ever heard, when you see them play "Simple Man" and "Free Bird" live its very moving, then they play "Sweet Home Alabama" and all the really drunk people start dancing really funny :D

Yea, I was wondering who wrote the song and my friends dad said that it was Harry Chapin, I was listening to it in the car and my neighbor came to talk to me and he was like "Wow, how the heck do you know that song?" I was like "I love this song" and he was telling me about when they went to college together and how that when he died he went to the funeral and all that stuff. They went to Cornell Universtity which is very close to my house.
Re: Favorite lyrics from a song
yeah...Cats in the Craddle is a great song!...
from the Ramones - My back Pages:
Quote:
Crimson flames tied through my ears
Rollin' high and mighty traps
Pounced with fire on flaming roads
Using ideas as my maps
"We'll meet on edges, soon," said I
Proud 'neath heated brow.
Ah, but I was so much older then,
I'm younger than that now.
Half-wracked prejudice leaped forth
"Rip down all hate," I screamed
Lies that life is black and white
Spoke from my skull. I dreamed
Romantic facts of musketeers
Foundationed deep, somehow.
Ah, but I was so much older then,
I'm younger than that now.
In a soldier's stance, I aimed my hand
At the mongrel dogs who teach
Fearing not that I'd become my enemy
In the instant that I preach
My pathway led by confusion boats
Mutiny from stern to bow.
Ah, but I was so much older then,
I'm younger than that now.
Yes, my guard stood hard when abstract threats
Too noble to neglect
Deceived me into thinking
I had something to protect
Good and bad, I define these terms
Quite clear, no doubt, somehow.
Ah, but I was so much older then,
I'm younger than that now.
