MVP Global Summit in April
This is for the MVPs that plan to attend the MVP global summit in Seattle in April.
According to the official site, registration shall start this month:
Quote:
Registration to attend the MVP Global Summit will open in January 2008 and be accessible from this Web site.
I will be there and I think it would be good to know how many of you also plan to be there. Last year 4 of us managed to register for the same hotel, perhaps this year we can do better. ;) Of course, first we need to get the hotel list from Microsoft to decide where to stay (I found The Westin very good last year). But we should watch that web page and be prepared to register as soon as it opens to increase our chances of staying together.
BTW, I believe this year all hotels will be non-smoking.
Re: MVP Global Summit in April
I have few important projects scheduled for coming 6 months, so I would not be able to attend this year too :(
Re: MVP Global Summit in April
I heard that Microsoft stopped sponsoring the travel, is it true ?

I don't remember them paying for travel expencess (airplane, train, etc.).

Travel
Microsoft will not be paying for any travel expenses for MVPs or RDs. If you are a Microsoft employee who needs to travel to this event, your department will be responsible for travel expenses.
But they do pay for accommodations (hotel, meals, parties :) )
Quote:
Accommodations
Microsoft has reserved several Seattle hotels for the MVP Global Summit. Attendees will be able to make their hotel reservations as part of the registration process.
Microsoft will be paying for hotel accommodations for MVPs and RDs for the nights of April 14, 15, 16, and 17, 2008, if the request is made during the registration process.
Please note that MVP Global Summit attendees are welcome to come early or extend their accommodations, but they will be responsible for related expenses. There will be a date range covering a series of days before and after the event that attendees can request to add on to their itinerary via the registration tool. As soon as we know the dates and the cost per night, we'll post that information here.
Perhaps you should read the FAQs: https://www.mvpsummit2008.com/public/faqs.aspx.
Re: MVP Global Summit in April
Last year they were paying some indian MVP's certain amount (300 USD or something) to assist the travel.
Re: MVP Global Summit in April
I see. I think that depends on the local subsidiary. In Romanian they didn't pay anything for traveling. But I remember Guido saying the same about the German MVPs being supported with a similar amount for the 2005 summit. I guess that depends on each Microsoft subsidiary's budget. I guess you should check that with your MVP lead.
Re: MVP Global Summit in April
I believe everything said to this point has been public information, but do remember that MVPs are under NDA with some information ;)
-----------------
I am currently planning to try to make the summit this year. If we can find out who else is planning on going, then I might try to get new Codeguru shirts or something made :)
Brad!
Re: MVP Global Summit in April
Not sure at this point. I've been meaning to go, but haven't been able to schedule it in.
Re: MVP Global Summit in April
Thank you for starting this thread, Marius. :)
I am planning to attend the Summit again this year (renomination provided, of course). Good idea about registering for the same hotel - I can only second Marius' recommendation of the Westin (I've been there twice, and don't know the other hotels, though).
Re: MVP Global Summit in April
OK Brad, I will be careful:
***********************************

**************************
After two times in the row, I am not sure I would be able to attend the summit this year. I will be able to make a decision about it in mid-March, hoping that if I will be able to attend, I will get a room in the same hotel as everybody. Of course, all of the above depends on terms mentioned by Guido.
For those who never attended a summit:
It is really exciting event because it gives one opportunity to meet people we have known for many years but have never met in person.
For example my first time I was looking forward to meet Brad and Guido (gstercken). It was the same pleasure meeting more code gurus the next time. Consider this, when making a decision to attend.
Re: MVP Global Summit in April
Guido, good news! We can go! This is what I found on this page:
Who can attend the MVP Global Summit?
The MVP Global Summit is an exclusive event for MVPs, Regional Directors (RDs), and Microsoft employees who work with MVPs and other influential technology users.
For this 2008 event, eligible MVP attendees are those who have been or will be awarded MVP status between April 2007 and April 2008.

Yes, I had seen that (shortly after making my post)... Nice gesture of MS, not to exclude the April re-nomination candidates. :)
I would be really glad to meet you again in Seattle, John... I hope you can make it.

That is great. I'm looking forward to meeting you there, again.
I am also in the April group and I feared I might not be eligible, but I read that some time ago on the site. So we don't have to worry about re-nomination for being able to attend.

I don't think we'll ever get in this thread to the point where the NDA should be taken in consideration. ;) This is just about planning to attend the summit.
Re: MVP Global Summit in April
Since I live only a few kilometers away from the summit, I think I might just mosey on over. :D
