What is a dll file and how does it work
I am getting involved in databases and pulling information from one application and putting it into another. I know this is done using a dll file, however, I don't know how they work or what dll even stands for.
Please help an old COBOL programmer here
Re: What is a dll file and how does it work
dll = Dynamic Link Library
Code is loaded dynamically and can be executed.
Re: What is a dll file and how does it work
Excerpt from MSDN:
*** dynamic-link library (DLL) ***
A .DLL file that contains one or more functions compiled, linked, and stored separately from the processes that use them. The operating system maps the DLLs into the process's address space when the process is starting up or while it is running. The process then executes functions in the DLL. See also process.
