is it possible to make the component in the center of the of the border layout, be full width of the frame?
In theory, yes - the docs say the Centre region can expand to occupy any free horizontal or vertical space, so if there are no components East or West, it presumably will.
The simplest answer is try it and see.
But then why use a BorderLayout ?
