replying to really old threads
Hi,
Would be nice to if the forum blocks post to (really) old threads. Some newbies reply to threads that are years old. Maybe restrict posting with less than 100-200 posts to reply in old threads, or a warning message when a thread is older than half a year.
Re: replying to really old threads
A warning message would be good. In some cases, a reply to an old thread is legitimate, e.g., to correct blatant misinformation that is central to the discussion of the thread.
Re: replying to really old threads
We've rallied for locking of threads after certain amounts of time as well. I don't believe anything will ever be changed for this specific scenario.
Re: replying to really old threads
As I was browsing some other forums today...I came across the following at the bottom of an old thread.
Quote:
This thread is more than three months old
No one has posted to this discussion for at least three months. Please let old threads die and do not reply to them unless you feel you have something new and valuable to contribute that absolutely must be added to make the discussion complete. Otherwise, please start a new thread in this forum instead.
Re: replying to really old threads
Yes, such a warning seems to be good!
Starting a new thread with the detailed problem decryption + link to the "old" thread with a similar problem is much better than posting something like
Quote:
I have the same problem. Please help...
in the bottom of multi-page old thread...
Re: replying to really old threads
As I recall, we've discussed this before and decided it really wasn't a problem.
