Do you consider yourself a stereotypical computer hacker?

I wondered if I was a bit unusual?

Someone asked me recently (an ex marketing director of another company) what I did.
"Software engineer" I said.
"Ah, dark rooms, lots of cola and late nights!" he said.
"Er, actually I sit by the window, drink Earl Grey and try to get away at 5" I replied.
He gave me a sideways look and disbelieving expression that said "Yeah, right!".

Do you think you fit this stereotype?

I think I fit that description ;)

When I recently saw Stieg Larsson's Millennium Trilogy I was surprised how many similarities I found between Lisbeth Salander and myself (though not necessarily pertaining to my life right now). But note that there are still more distinctions than similarities (probably luckily :)).

Also, nota bene, during the entire 9 hours of the extended version of the three movies, Lisbeth Salander didn't write a single line of code.

Well... to be honest... no. And that's probably the most fundamental difference between Lisbeth and me. (And, just to clarify, this is not what I was referring to with the "luckily" in my post above.)

One of the similarites, OTOH: I have actually done some hacks many years ago. That was the time when they (well, most of them) actually were as easy as shown in today's movies (but not that colorful and fancy-looking... :rolleyes:).
