There is a lot of discussion around technology in the K-12 school systems. My town's school system has rolled out iPads in grades 5-8 and has switched the high school (9-12) to BYOD notebooks. This year we are rolling out iPads in k-4 as well. Pilots have been done in K-4 for the last few years.
There is a lot of controversy on computers in the classroom ranging from 'too much screen time' to 'computers make our kids dumber'. Recently the talk is that computers are being seen as more of a distraction than an aid.
I've seen uses in our school system that are both great as well as very bad. This forum is a tech crowd, so I'm assuming you are watching what is happening in your schools. I'd be interested in hearing the good, the bad, and the ugly on what you see gong on as well as hear what technology your schools have adopted and how it is going.
One thing I have seen - there is a lot of controversy around the topic. I've also seen that a lot of the administrators making the technology decisions are not properly informed or educated on technology. Comments like "iPads don't get those viruses that notebooks get" make me cringe.... :)
