Deploying Spredsheet control on the web

I am creating a web application which sould have spreadsheet control like features , one way I can think of is to use an activex control like spread , however this wont work on Non IE browsers , Is there a way to get spreadsheet like features w/o using an activex control ? Any other more powerful scripting language ?Html would be too painful
