- Life -- and I don't suppose I'm the first to make this comparison -- is a disease: sexually transmitted, and invariably fatal.

You give them a piece of you. They didn't ask for it. They did something dumb one day, like kiss you or smile at you, and then your life isn't your own anymore. Love takes hostages. It gets inside you. It eats you out and leaves you crying in the darkness, so simple a phrase like 'maybe we should be just friends' turns into a glass splinter working its way into your heart. It hurts. Not just in the imagination. Not just in the mind. It's a soul-hurt, a real gets-inside-you-and-rips-you-apart pain. I hate love.
This is indeed so profound... I can't stop reading it over and over again... It reminds me of Queen's Too Much Love Will Kill You:
Quote:
Too much love will kill you
Every time
Too much love will kill you
It'll make your life a lie
Yes, too much love will kill you
And you won't understand why
You'd give your life, you'd sell your soul
But here it comes again
Too much love will kill you
In the end...
In the end.

It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothes. But the half-wit remains a half-wit, and the emperor remains an emperor.

Nice and funny thought, Ideru. :thumb:
Here's one from Blaise Pascal
Quote:
The heart has its own reasons... where reason knows nothing.

I thought it was a little bit different:
Quote:
The heart has its own reasons that reason knows nothing of.
or
Quote:
The heart has its reason of which reason knows nothing.
which are the same, but have a different meaning than the one you quoted.
Re: The profound thought thread
BTW, here's one more from Pascal:
Quote:
If we all told what we know of one another, there would not be four friends in the world.

Oh, I see. Thanks for correcting. :)
I actually saw that quote from the movie Someone Like You (Ashley Judd, Hugh Jackman).. and I just posted that from memory. I was too lazy to check the internet for the actual quote. :D

Re: The profound thought thread
What I fear most for my people are the hypocrites, who talk wisely, yet act unjustly.
None of you really has faith unless he desires for his neighbor what he desires for himself.
The strong man is not the good wrestler; the strong man is only the one who controls himself when he is angry.
What is Faith? When your good deed pleases you and your evil deed grieves you, you are a believer. What is Sin? When a thing disturbs (the peace of) your heart, give it up.
To overcome evil with good is good, to resist evil by evil is evil.
A believer must not hate his wife, and if he is displeased with one bad quality in her, then let him be pleased with one that is good in her.

One thing I dislike most in the Bible, and by seeing what's going on in Muslim countries I'm sure it's the same with Quoran, is that women are treated like dirt, like soul-less creatures, that have no rights whatsoever. They tell what a man can do with his wife, but not the viceversa. So much misogynism.

how sure are you about that? by seing whats going on in Muslim Countries you already can conclude thats what Quran teaches? and which muslim country treat woman badly? what you mean treated like dirt/ soul-less cretures? an example?
one thing I can say is Islam came during the age when the arabs kill their newborn female child, woman are used solely as YOU_KNOW_WHAT.. and Islam is the religion changed it all..;)

maybe you misintepreted the above quote. It actually mean to not hate your partner and be content with her.you should not hate her although she may have some bad quality's, look for the best in her, and you should be happy together.. hmm I wonder which part of this quote treats the woman badly..?
