Atnn Zafir: Please Post a notice indicating The reasons for the change , its history, and What we should expect in the Near Future:
Please Cover:
1) WHy the changes were made?
2) When you expect the speed issue to be resolved (Currrently it takes 3 minutes for my machine on a T1 line to get to a page pointed by the hyperlink)
3) The Full Implications of the LEGAL issues associated with posting code on this site as discussed in other postings.
Thank you for your time and I understand the need to make money off this site (in fact I think it is a good idea), but ,ofcourse, if no-one visits this site, There will be no enticement to place ads.

This is a VERY DISAPPOINTING situation. If anyone wants to take their code and pull out...respond to this email. If we get enough response, a new site will be created!
Hey people, we are just beating a dead horse here. I know that 99% of we prior users are *incredulous* about the changes, but it is clear that we are wasting our time and energy. Sure, I'm mad as heck, but developer.com is not listening, and it seems like Zafir isn't either. Not even ANY amount of superficial public relations effort to head off the rebellion. What does this say about the future?
Yeah, there are legal issues for both posters and vistors who use the code or even fragments of it. Yeah, we know that the new site is not what the old site was, nor will it ever be. The formula is gone. Let developer.com have their new codeguru site and do what they want with it. We need a NEW SITE for serious developers that realizes the best of the old codeguru formula. I would seriously offer to do it myself but I don't have the resources or knowledge to do so. No way! Is there someone out there who can do it? Please! The sooner a replacement is setup the sooner we can quit venting our communal spleen and get on with development issues.
Here's a possible (albiet temporary) solution for the legal problems.
Have the zip's of the source code on a separate site. True, the article itself could be contested, but since the code wouldn't be on codeguru, EarthWeb couldn't claim control over it.
I really hope this issue can be settled. I think that if EarthWeb has any rights to the code, then the site is dead (I'd wager that at least 3 quarters of the regular visitors use the articles for commerical apps).
I also think that many people will be reluctant to post new articles if they're just handing it over to EarthWeb rather than the community at large.
I also think it's incredibly childish and disrepectful to talk about setting up "a different codeguru" on this board. I've used codeguru since before it was codeguru, and think that Zafir definitly deserves more credit and respect for his hard work. Rather than bail at first sign of stress, we should continue to support Zafir and show EarthWeb what we want the site to be.

I completely agree: there's need for some clarity, in particular about the legal issues everyone keeps asking about.

If anyone is interested, there is a new site that has been established: http://www.codejock.com. I can set up the format simular to the old CodeGuru site. Please visit the new site, and give me some feedback. I am going to pull all of my articles and code from here, and step down as section manager of the ToolBar and Advanced UI sections, since I DO NOT AGREE with the NEW COPYRIGHT.
CodeJock.com will be dedicated to protecting the rights of the developer, without the commercialization that we see with this site! We will follow the format of the "Old" CodeGuru.com site.
If anyone is interested, please contact me directly, or reply to this message.

YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!!!
(isn't that copyrighted now? ARRGH!)
I agreed.
The copyright of the articles(of course, and the source code) in CodeGuru are belonged to their authors. Each author, not the EarthWeb, has the right to let others share his works freely or with some limitation.
Excellent idea. Good luck!
I am very disappointed how the site has changed. I don't like it any more. I don't think i will contribute more code. Perhaps we developpers need to make another site. I don't like:
1) The wavy line. This is not a site for health care
2) The width if i use a resolution with 1000*800 pixel. Everything is now on the left half part
3) Loading banners does consume a lot of time
4) The contents and the look and feel do not reflect the same philosophie. The contents is: Highly concentrated very important information. The display is: A beginner has tried some html-elements and is very happy about all effects he has found.
5) Terrible use of colors.
6) I think this changes are not due to requests of the user
Congratulations Zafir! - You are gooing the same way as everbody goes. First a good idea. Then a very good first implementation. Success. Business people come on the scene. They kill everything. The idea is away. - Somebody other has a good idea. It is time to switch.
I am VERY disappointed. But i am not astonished.
I want a new site. I would be satisfied with a very simple interface
Hi!
1. Text of most articles is wider than my screen. I must use horisontal scroll bar to see it all. I have Windows NT 4.0 SP3,
Internet Explorer 5, resolution 1024x768, large fonts.
Example of such an article:
http://www.codeguru.com/misc/encrypt_decrypt.shtml
but there are many others.
2. I visited Russian section of the site and saw that it is
extremely outdated. I know you might not have too much time
to update the foreign languages stuff, but anyway, this is
not good :-)
3. Wavy line on left really sucks. My eyes always bump into
it when I read the text. But, maybe somebody likes it :-)
Anyway, CodeGuru remains excellent programming site.
Thank you for your work.
Ivan
