I'm posting it because it's a killer and if you want dont count it (if wuyh posts his(her)'s that is)
so...
There was a small county that consist of some families - all know each other;
One day a great wiseman came to the county and, of course, met with the count.
'What do you think of my lands?,' the count asked.
'Well they are good but there are prostitutes among the women. Thants what I don't like'
'How can this be?'
'It can! Each man knows all prostitutes, but if his wife is one, he doesn't know of her.'
The count immediately told this to all men and told them: 'whoever finds out that his wife is a prostitute, he must kill her immediately!'
A day passed and the barber killed his wife.
How many prostitutes were there in the county, before that?
Ok, you do it..
i was searching for puzzles just now, but found nothing..
thankQ, 7thStar.:D :D :D :D
I think it might work like this :
1 and 2 goes = 2 mn
1 comes back = 1 mn
5 and 10 goes = 10 mn
2 comes back = 2 mn
1 and 2 goes = 2 mn
Total = 17 mn
Bridge can now explose !
Oupsss sorry I miss the previous answer ...
Well please let me try this one too :)
I would say one (the barber's wife)...
If they were two (or more), the barber should say all right It's not mine but the other one... And would have killed his wife the second day realising the other one hadn't killed his wife.
So the thing is that he didn't knew any prostitute but know that they were at least one ...
It's obvious that the real answer is:Quote:

they have a flashlight and the bridge cannot be passed without a flashlight and it can carry no more than two men.
the first onw can pass the bridge for 1 minute, the second for 2 the third, slightly injured man, for 5 and the fourth for 10.
In 17 minutes the birdge will be blown to pieces so they need to pass it within that time.
How will they do it?
They spend a minute coming up with this really fantastic plan of how to cross the bridge, realize there are only 16 minutes left, and all commit Sepuku.
as the orignal text did not mention the relationship between the barber and the count, i would like to say that the barber and count are the same person. And there's only ONE prostitute, the barber's wife, in this country.
Or, if there's more than one, why did the count know no prostitute?
Last, i think this country is not in Arab, where a man could have more than 1 wife. and the count should be a MAN.

so they were two for the reason pierre31 pointed outQuote:

Hope this one hasn't beeen asked yet but I've got so few question in mind ...
JUst link the 9 point with 4 line without puting up the pen from the paper (sorry for the english) -the 4 line must be linked-
* * *
* * *
* * *
Gooood Luck !:D
I think it has been asked already. But here is the answer anyway...
Right !!!! Congratulation
Ok then I'm gonna look to question I can post next time...
Your turn now !
Pierre31:
I am not sure it has been here, but it is such a classical question that I have already seen it quite a few times.
My question:
Why do programmers have trouble to make the distinction between Halloween and Christmas?
because:
oct 31 == dec 25
Hahaha I guessed it! Haha! :D
Correct.
ok!
There are two separate rooms. In the first one there are 3 lamps, in the secont the keys that turn these lamps on and off. You enter the second room (the one with the keys) and you are allowed to do anything that does not damage the keys. You know that all 3 are off when you enter. Then you must enter the room with the lamps and say which key is to which lamp. There is no visibility between both rooms.
How will you do it?
You turn the first switch on for 5 minutes.
Then turn it off and turn the second on and get in the other room.
The first switch works the lamp that is off and hot (it has been on for 5 minutes so it should be hot).
The second switch works the lamp that is on.
The third switch works the last lamp.
Another well known problem ;).
thats right!
so I've ran out of questions again!
Somebody ask something!
Elrond... you're on!
I'm out as well for the moment...
Two cars were involved in an accident in the center of town. The man who was driving a little green car, had overtaken a big black car. The driver had misjudged the distance between him and the on-coming traffic and had to swerve back in, causing the black car to swerve and crash into a shop window. When the occupants of the cars were examined everyone in the green car was okay, but in the black car was one dead man. However, the driver of the green car was not charged with manslaughter, why was this so?
Because the woman in the big black car was already dead. The big black car was a hearse driving her to the burial ground for example.
seem right but i dont get one thing:
Where did this woman come from, my fellow bulgarian? :D
And now we are onto a trully unsolvable riddle.
:D:D:D
I know! I know!Quote:

She had just come from the boring thread?
oh yeah?! She might've died of boredom! ;)Quote:

But the question didn't say there was a dead woman!Quote:

Oh what the heck, you're right anyway. ;)
okay the next riddle is something like a scavenger hunt :)
it has some steps to be solved so:
1. find the most common number bigger than 3 billion and less than 4 billion on the internet. (the number is not rounded it exact and precise)
2. take the number 1271999
3. sum the two numbers and find all divisors of the number not including 1 and the number itself
4. find the most common digit in these devisors multiply it by ten and suppose it's 'x' goto
http://x.com
find a link on this site that leads to another number site (there IS such link dont forget this there IS one)
5. get the number of this site and add it to the least of the devisors from step 3
6. find the user with id this number then find the longest word he has posted :)
That's it! whoever finds this word has solved the riddle :D
You can ask me questions if you dont understand anything!
and please tell me did you like this one!
Alright guys... it's time to get the wheelbarrow... I'll find the address of the looney bin. ;)
You mean I'll have visitors?? It's time to bake a cake or something...and I swore I'd never post in this thread....Quote:

has anyone passed step one?!
I'm begginning to think its a little complicated!...
ooopsy I've made a calculation error
sorry but the number from step 2 must be 1271999
i think that noone's there yet but at least i found my error :D
so if anyone's there sorry!
i edited the condition so its ok !
Seems to me that I'm the only one to solve this "scavenger hunt" but anyway I won't post the answer here because I had quite a lot of fun solving it and I'm sure you will "suffer" the same. Wish you all good luck finding out this nasty word :p :p :p
I don't know how to go about finding the popular internet number :(
hmm im sure www.google.com will help =) remember if you serch for it it gives more than 2000 web pages
A question regarding the user: Is the three-digit number his username, or does the name contain the number? And: You mean CG users, right? I'm at step 6, but can't find the user.
I must be missing something.Quote:

5. get the number of this site and add it to the least of the devisors from step 3
number x, devisor y
user id for step 6 x+y
and yes it's about CodeGuru users, i missed that sorry.
Go to the personal info of somebody and you'll see that in the url there is a user id, that's what i'm talking about
OK, that's what you mean by user ID. So am I right that the answer is "TableDataModel"?
gstercken, no!
but anyway you're third to post an answer so i'm gonna reveal the solution... i think that you were close ;)
so the number from step one is
3,083,324,652 not 3,500,000,000 i said it was about something exact and precise and what in the world is exactly 3,500,000,000
so summed with 1271999 it gives 3084596651, which devisors are
521
769
7699
400649
4011179
5920531
the most common digit here is 9 and in http://90.com in the source there is www.46.com and 521+46=567
and the user with id 567's longes word from all his 5 posts
is jtableheader, which is the answer ;)
so chaos_user PMed me first with the correct answer, then solarflare, if i had given you more thime you'd probably answer too
so did you like this, cause i have some much harder ones... do you want me to continue...
Arrrgh! I got the user right. My answer 'TableDataModel' is from the same thread as jtableheader, but posted by a different user...Quote:

Yes, go on!Quote:
so did you like this, cause i have some much harder ones... do you want me to continue...
so here i post the steps of the next riddle ;)
see them for yourselves and extract the verry raw data from the files. the password will soon come to you :)
i can tell you that a good image program will come in handy :D
i think the riddle is kinda hard so i'll be givving hints but i want to see what you can do without them in the beginnig!
so here it is: (yes it's just the zip file ;) )
.
:DQuote:

i dont know how to give it to you. i dont want to put out the obvious... everything is hidden, sometimes no one knows what and where, i bet that many pictures and programs have something hidden in them... for example have you ever tried running a picture or viewing a program with your picture viewer?
no?! it's quite interesting you know...
:D read the condition of the riddle again... see what you can do with it - that's the hint :p
ok another hint
think about the "raw" image data!!!!!
:p :p :p
hope this helps
I figured when I first saw it that we were maybe supposed to convert step one to .com and step two to .gif, but no matter what I try, my computer recognizes the files as what they are, regardless of the extension. :(Quote:

So in case you were wondering, at least one ;) person has tried it. Don't say anything if it will give too much away.
hmmm i didn't say the "gif" image data did i?
