Even though it seems this is not quite a hot thread anymore, I'm not going to post the answer until I have given it some time.
Yves' original plan of attack was to separate four trays with three upsidedown trays. That's the reason I said you can't turn them upside down, because that response is too easy; but I couldn't think of a good reason in the real world to not permit the trays to be turned upside down ;). For the record, though, Yves did send the correct answer along with this idea.
lol I can't believe that that was actually the correct answer :p
You'd probably be better off putting a sheet of aluminum foil between the trays and freeze them all at once ;)
