B'coz that's how its done...the new year ushers in with a countdown...rockets are launched with a countdown...every race in olympics is started with a countdown! Just a universal phenomenon I guess...
Fortunately, our lifespans are not a countdown...else....
i prefer count-up... its a lot easier.. count-down is just too much stress to my brain.:p
I think it should be the other way round.. :ehh:
You see...with a countdown, you (and everybody else) know when the counting is going to end. Anything that has a 'limit' or end-point allways follow the countdown.
But things like a...mmm...say a distress beacon...it follows a countup with a fixed time interval...b'coz its not going to end till somebody catches it.
hmmm.... i didn't think about it too thoroughly, but i can't imagine even one race which starts with a countdown. usually they start with a "ready - set - go" sequence or with light signals switching colors, don't they? but i agree that in sports, count-ups have some negative touch because of e.g. boxing, where you count up to 10 when one fighter goes down in the rink... the same is true for other martial arts and fighting sports.Quote:

I hate countdowns... because they have a clear end. And sometimes it can be very bad to see one, especially when combined with tickin'.Quote:

LOL nice. =P Maybey that's what I meant by, 'trippy'. Hehe.
is countdown has an end?...after 0, there're still -1,-2,-3 and so on:confused:
EDIT: unless you set the end is 0...and we can applied to the count up too...let set the end is 10 or 3 or something :p
agreed...but "ready-set-go" actually relates to 3 different stances the runner takes before he dashes off to the finish, so they cannot be considered as a count-down (or count-up) :cool:Quote:
