Yes, mormons still live in the XIXe century. They refuse electricity, cars, or any modern things. They cultivate the land with their labour and some animal power too. Yea we have laws to prevent polgamy..but they still practice it. Peronally I don't care, if a woman wants to share her husband, or for that matter if a man wants to share his wife, then it's really none of my buisness.

There is a big population of amish in PA, we have an amish market in annapolis, and I must say they do make the best homemade shakes I've ever had ;) Something to be said for the lifesytle though...it's simple, no running around playing the rat race...and sometimes that can be a good thing :)

Huh? This must be a different group of Mormons than I know of. Remember, Donny Osmond is a Mormon and I never saw him refuse electricity, cars or modern things. Are you sure you aren't thinking about Republicans???? :D

I might be wrong, but I think the people who refuse electricity... are the quackers.

I am not too sure what are the specificities of the mormons (except may be polygammy).

One of my favorite writers is a mormon and he is writing about science fiction (space shipd, ...) so it does not look like a refusal of electricity.

That's crazy, Marina! Although I have no plans of committing myself to any one girl, I know very well that if a man has more than 1 wife, he is NOT fully comitted.
You cannot love more than 1 wife. If a guy has more than 1 wife, then he's leacherous and that's not true love to his 1st wife.

In my view, it's either you take a wife or you don't. Of course, Marina......you should take a hubby(no hubbies) and not a wife. :D:p

Well I only know 1 mormon that I can identify :) And she's a nut, but then she was a nut before she converted. The mormon religion came about in the 1800's I thunk....started by Joseph Smith...actually I think rotten.com listed the other day in the <on this day in rotten history :)> that it was the anniversry of when a mob killed the founder of the mormon religion, which of course was him...there are alot of holes in the mormon religion, big enough to drive a tractor trailer through...but you know to each his own...whatever floats your boat.

I saw an HBO special on the amish, and yes there was some really really cute girls in that ;)

Quakers. Quakers use electricity and technology. Real Quakers won't serve in the army though.

The USA has had two Quaker presidents:
Richard Nixon (imagine that) and Herbert Hoover.

The Amish don't use electricity. Mennonites use machines and electricity but still wear the same clothes as the Amish.

No, Amish and Quakers are not the same thing. The only similarity is that they were two religious sects who fled Europe and went to Pennsylvania. Though they did it in different centuries. My mennonite ancestors came to Pennsylvania in the 1700's. No I am not a mennonite. I think the Quakers came with William Penn in the 1600's.

Wait a minute!!! Solarflare is from Pennsylvania? Maybe he is Amish!!!

Amish are isolated from society whereas quakers are integrated, just another difference.

By the way, are Quackers and Amish NORMAL HUMANS???!!!(sane??!!)
