Is it called Bastille day? Not revolution day?
It's just the celebration of France being a Republic, actually. Those who still want a king keep their firecrackers( fireworks) until the 15th of August, when Louis is celebrated.

Elrond, I know what a french buffet at the embassy is like. Yes you should be on time. Some are always there early to get as much food as they can. Crazy!! Like they don't eat usually.
Is your ambassador able to sing the Marseillaise by heart?? Ours is Sweden was not. Shame on him, this should be part of the recruitment test! ;)


Yes I have been on the Eiffel tower, but not recently!

They don't... :D Not this type of food anyway. I didn't get that much, but I did get quite a lot recently (visitors always bring food...). :cool:

I don't know. There have been no singing during the time I was there, but may be it was before that, or may be not at all... :confused:

And I have seen the ambassador only a few second, as he was at the gate shaking the hand of every one (may be to avoid any singing), far enough from where the buffet was.

I've always said I don't frequent Embassy Row (in Washington D.C.) often enough.

I did work in an embassy and it was fun to be invited at all the cocktails and so :) Not much for the company of the persons 'cause as a trainee, I was not high enough to be good to talk with, but for the food!!! mmmmm...

I was at the french ambassy drinking wine and eating good food paid by French taxes :D :D

T'was good to have some real french food, though the place was a little to crowdy and a lot of the food was gone when I arrived. I had forgotten that, unlike Irish people, a lot of french tend to be much more on time, especially in a foreign country when you know you'll have real food!!!

French food of course. There is no such a thing as Irish cuisine... Except a few recipes based on potatoes and cabbage. :p

Why was I drinking wine? Because I can go every day in a pub and have a Guinness. But wine is very expensive here. So having some free wine is worth drinking wine instead of beer or whiskey. And anyway, they only had some french beers. :(

And by the way, Irish people are very fond of wine as well. :cool:

Yep guinness was what I was thinking about when I commented on the wine part. A good warm guinness ahh it makes my heart go thump...

Warm beer only the British or the Irish would have thunk that one up...I think brit when I think guinness, is it Irish? I'll have to look at the tap next time (looking for made in ireland :) )

Just wanted to add, I like pale ale's (my friends think I'm strange for this) along with a good wheat beer. Had a friend bring back some wheat beer from Germany...best beer I've ever had...still dreaming about it...gonna go to Germany just for that :)

Guinness is definitely an Irish thing. I got one yesterday. That's probably my favorite beer. :p :cool:

I don't like beers, I can drink the white ones though. Otherwise I have to cut them with lemonade making a shandy (is that the name?)...

How odd! Guinness is the only beer I can get drunk on... I think it's probably a problem of gas. With other beers or with cider, I feel filled after two or three pints. I can drink much more pints of Guinness than that. And I don't have to eat after that :D

And for some Irish people who don't like the bitterness of Guinness, they drink it with a dash of black current. It's not too bad but I find it to sweet for me.

And here I thought I talked about things that made no sense...What is black current, thought coffee first...but that wouldn't make it sweet.
