With these many platforms to support, you may notice diminishing
returns when trying to optimize parts of your code. That's why
I'm a strong advocate of McKenzie's "if it can be sped up by using
the standard, then it's a great solution" philosophy.
I believe optimization is necessary only when it is necessary. When performance doesn't matter, it doesn't matter and there is no point optimizing it using assembly.
