I wonder that too. ;)
when I become a billionaire (I know I'll become one within 15 years:D)...I'll buy Liverpool FC and swarm the club with cash...:D
Hi everyone!!
Good to see a nice football thread on CG.
Well that happens ;), when you have defenders like Paolo, Nesta, Billy (Costacurta) running against you nothing much can be done :D . I agree that the things are messed up in Serie A but the quality of football cannt be doubted. The career ending case was that of Rivaldo who never fitted in Ancelotti's plans. Nevertheless Crespo on the other hand resurrected his career at Milan and is going good for Chelsea as well.Quote:

Add to that one of the most rigid defences in Europe and you know what you are against ;). We have left the disaster of Istanbul behind us and are now looking forward.
Man United is on a decline, there is only one soln to it - Fire Freggie!! And as of your wonder kid Rooney, well he is like Owen promised so much but never lived to his expectations.
Milan, AC Milan ;).Quote:

Yeah, yeah, yeah!!!
And Utd are touching new lows...
FORZA MILAN!!!
What happened to Juventus' defense? Very strange. Unbelievable.
Anyway, Trezeguet scored again. Allez Trezegoal!
Juve's defence is surely the best in Europe (it's better than Chelsea's and Milan's :(). The main culprit for Juve was their new goalkeeper Buffon is injured while Milan man Abbiati didnt play. So the blunders by the keeper led to their downfall. Yeah Trezeguet did score in the second half but it was all too late by then.
I had thought Pippo Inzaghi to score a goal but he couldnt, anyways it's nice to have Super Pippo back but he relies too much on the offside trap which becomes irritating at times.
Well said. I knew it the day Beckham left. :Cry:Quote:

Well, right now I'm wearing a blue pullover on which is written Chelsea. It was a birthday present, from someone who didn't know my true allegiance. ;)
Mutu against Milan. ;)

You know, Rapid and Shakhtyor are in the same group. Rapid is coached by Razvan Lucescu, and Shakhtyor by Mircea Lucescu. Razvan Lucescu is the son of Mircea Lucescu. The later is probably the best Romanian coach ever (along with Stefan Kovacz who won 3 times the Champions Cup with Ajax in the '70s). The match Rapid against Shakhtyor will be very interesting. Most people in Romania hope Razvan (the son) will defeat his father. I hope that too.Quote:

 so the european adventure ends for my favorite team.Quote:
Levski Sofia 1 - 0 Dinamo Bucarest
But neither the others stand very well
CSKA has 1 point only too. They play in Bucharest against Dinamo. Heerenveen has 2 points. Tough fight will be.Quote:

Though Dinamo's fans see Steaua as the eternal enemy (;) ) I believe Steaua is strong enough to reach to the final.Quote:

Dont be so pessimist...Chelsea's defence has been conceeding goals..even Cech goofed up in the last game...
By the way Wigan Athletic are doing wonderfully!! Quite an achievement for them.
Utd are no good in Europe, they were beaten by Lille...Quote:

Cilu, thank you for the story of the coaches, father and son. I'll support the father for I prefer pioneers than heirs.
Don't make me laugh about Manchester. They were fairly lucky against Chelsea. The ball reached the head of a player, who was almost surprised and who apparently tried to pass it back to teammates. But instead, by an incredible Harry Potters' trick of wizardry, the ball flew up in the air above Chelsea's goal keeper and above a defender, and stopped its course in the net. Maybe the player was offside.
In European Football cups, I don't know who will win. I just don't think it will be a club from England or Spain.
Aaahh...C'mon...if there will be 10 chances in a game do you expect all 10 to be converted??? No way, only a few will get through...that's the game...create as many chances as you can and see which one goes inside...and then see how to defend it ....Quote:

Great teams are not just great in attacking but defending as well and that was proved there. And as for Europe...dont worry about it...the group phase is not over yet...they will surely get through...Take a word on that...United are great performers on such ocassions..
I will be taking off....Regards all!
And ...that is what happens when 2 good teams contest...Chelsea and Man Utd...you dont expect either of them to be crushed by the other by some 5+ goals...do you??? :D There is a marginal difference in performance and a little bit of luck that decides the outcome...
That was one of the greatest contests of football since Liverpool's win over Milan in last Champions League Final.
HA! Surprize. Gheorghe Hagi, best Romanian football player eher have just signed with Poli Timisoara for 2 years and a half. Coaching, of course (he has retired a few years ago). :thumb:
bravo to Man U!!!!!....they'd rock Chelsea's world...
but the Chelsea's domination still there...:ehh:
the world had lose another football legend, George Best...may his soul rest in peace.........................................................................
anyway, Livepool had made their place into the round of 16...yieha!...
And Manchester is struggling for survivor. I predict a failure in passing to the next round. They will be the only English team that won't make it for the next round.
BTW, this Thursday, in Ukraine, Shaktior and Rapid Bucharest met eachother. As I was telling you Shaktior is coached by Mircea Lucescu and Rapid by his son, Razvan Lucescu. And the son won. ;) It was kinda hard for him. He almost cried at the press conference. The father was kinda upset on UEFA because they sent a special observer for fears of a fixed match.
They will make it through. I tell you .. believe me... :) :thumb:Quote:

Anyway, Romania in on top the the UEFA chart of country coefficients right now. :D
That feels good... ;)
Bravo Roumania (or just Bucarest)!
How come such a good nation of football has only 3 clubs in European cups, which is the same number than for the Feroe Islands, Malta, Cyprus, and Luxembourg.
The chart is interesting. I had not noticed before the poor result of Croatia this year, which is a pity.
However, in spite of the excellent results from Romania, I think Juventus will win this year.
You know, actually this is the first year after 5-6 when we have more than 1 teams in European Cups. Not even we don't know what happened, how come they play so good. Probably because lately, the players did not left for teams abroad and they play in the same formation, basically, for 2-3 years (this is less true for Dinamo).Quote:

Our teams play in the UEFA Cup. Juventus is playing the the UEFA Champions Leage.Quote:

Though I am a fan of Dinamo Bucharest, I think Steaua Bucharest is strong enough to win UEFA Cup.
Thank you Glazers. See you bankrupt.
MU just need a draw...but they 'managed' to lose 1-2 to Benfica...that's terrible...
but as Liverpudlian, I still regard MU as a worthy rival...more worthy than the Blues;)...
anyway, Barca is running wild:thumb:...I enjoy watching their games...
Thats pathetic.. I am so so so so so ... mad and sad.. all my friends are boo-ing me.. .. they have let me down..
//TRANSFERS .. TRANSFERS.. united need some good TRANSFERS.... the team that boasted of the most gifted midfield is the weakest now in that area...
///spend some cash ... get some classy players...
//get rid of Ronaldo.. he is so individualistic in his approach.. he is not at all a team player... he may be a great players of football .. but i think he keeps the ball too much with himself.. doesnt pass them at the right moment.. get rid of him soon.. and Silvestre in the back.. he has lost so many crucial matches for Man U.. for France.. France's Euro exit could be completely blamed on to him...
This is the result of a very bad management in the last years. It's the final result of a process that started the day Ferguson threw a boot in Beckham's face. Since Beckham's departure, United is in a continuous drift. And yesterday and era ended. At least this is what I see.
They let go some key players and brought young and/or unexperienced players. The mid line is awful. Giggs and Scholes are too old, Smith is a striker forced to play midfielder. And let's be serious, who are these guys Park, Richardson? This team is a mess. Woth 3 goals scored in 6 games clearly did not deserve to go forward.
And the problem is they no longer have money to buy expensive players. The Glazers have transformed the club from the richest in the world to one with the greatest debts. 450 mil pounds. Awful.
So what I think is that it can only go worse for United. They are a shame!
SHAME TO THEM!
nah!...it's not a the end of the world for MU yet...they still got the quality to challenge the top clubs...even if Beckham was there, he can't do anything...just look how he perform for Real Madrid....he'd lost some of his abilities now...
I havent considered Beckham that much of a force to get a team going.. he is a good winger... a good passer and good free-kicks .. but personally I think he is one of the most over-valued over-hyped player in the world...
Moreover the wings are not a problem for Man U.. its the central midfield.. the 2 positions in the center... Park is a real good self-less player .. I have seen him play in the matches he started .. and he has impressed me and I think he is upto the Man U standards.. but yeah for richardson etc.. I dont know what they are...
Sometimes I even doubt Ruud of calibre.. he doesnt fight for the ball at all.. look at other strikers.. rooney, henry, drogba, gudjohnsen, crespo... and other guys from the top clubs..they fight for the ball.. keep good possession.. and this guy..Ruud.. gets the ball and loses it quite easy.. he is just a guys who just knows to tuck the ball in to the goal and he is not even doing that good enough these days...
Forget about giggs..scholes.. they are legends and they should voluntarily retire now.. rather than something happening to them as did with keane.. Smith is aweful in the midfield.. he is just sliding..fighting ... etc etc.. no real talent... but yeah the one thing i like about him is his tempo in the games.. he values each game enormously... but there is no way that he can become the new play-maker for Man U..
One more thing I think is that all the guys in the midfield these days are attacking midfielders.. they dont seem to reach out to the defense lines when their defenders need it.. all tend to push forward.. that leaves holes.. and that is the reason they seem to be conceding this lot these days..
Of all the players.. I dislike ronaldo the most.. he is so so so selfish when he has the ball.. fergie should get rid of him or try managing him better...
I could go on and on.. but it doesnt matter.. I just can hope things improve.. and I am really scared about Man U that nothing happens to them similar to Leeds United.. which are now nowhere in the scene these days...
Get some good transfer Fergie.. you need it the most at this time..
I don't think United has money for that. They have debts of 450 mil pounds. That's huge... Dam.n Glazers...Quote:

World cup, Germany 2006.
Group A: Germany - Costa Rica - Poland - Ecuador
Group B: England - Paraguay - Trinidad and Tobago - Sweden
Group C: Argentina - Côte d'Ivoire - Serbia and Montenegro - Netherlands
Group D: Mexico - Iran - Angola - Portugal
Group E: Italy - Ghana - United States - Czech Republic
Group F: Brazil - Croatia - Australia - Japan
Group G: France - Switzerland - Korea Republic - Togo
Group H: Spain - Ukraine - Tunisia - Saudi Arabia
Top two teams in each group are qualified.
Although I'm French, I agree with you Exterminator about Sylvestre who is not a very good player.
I don't understand either why Michael Essien was chosen by Chelsea.
I think Manchester United's period of glory is over now. Teams have good and bad cycles.
About good British players, Franck Lampard should not be forgotten.
Well, the fixtures were "fixed" so that Germany and Brazil can not meet until the final. What a shame on FIFA and Germany! I understand that Germany wants a rematch for the lost final of 2002, but what they did is totally incorrect.
The C group is a killer. I would say Argentina and the Netherlands will go true, but both Ivory Coast and Serbian and Montenegro could make a surprize. It's a group where anything can happen. As for the other top teams, Germany, England, Protugal, Itally, Czech Republic, Brazil, France and Spain have a relative easy task to pass to the next round.
It will be interesting to see Ericson playing against Sweeden. I've seen him laughing when they drew Sweeden out of the pot.
Anyway, an European team must win this time. South-americans never won in Europe, Europeans never won outside Europe. It's simple. ;)
I'll support Togo:D....
anyway, it's good to see Liverpool on a good run...the first opponent is the "purple monster"....Red against Purple, what colour is more striking?....hmmm:D...
Liverpool vs Sao Paolo....place your bet:D....
What a draw in UCL.
1. Chelsea - Barcelona
2. Real Madrid - Arsenal
3. Werder Bremen - Juventus
4. Bayern - AC Milan
5. PSV Eindhoven - Lyon
6. Ajax - Inter Milano
7. Benfica - Liverpool
8. Rangers - Villarreal
The English teams play agains Iberians. Chelsea vs. Barcelona, the real final of the competition. I put my bets on Chelsea, agan. ;)
It will also be interesting to see Arsenal entertaining Real Madrid.
Bayern vs. Juventus is another close encounter.
I still believe Chelsea will win the competition this year.
darn!...Sao Paolo...
Chelsea vs Barcelona...Barcelona will triumph:thumb:...
this week match: Man U vs Liverpool....
this schedule is always interest me....
I won't bet on United. They suck lately.
yup...but I still view MU as the great rival for Liverpool;)...they've a long history together...Quote:
