If it's that much of a problem, you could consider going back to version 7 of the flash player. It doesn't exhibit the crashing issue.
Is anyone else having the same issues as dglienna?
Brad!
Crashed twice in the past 30 minutes. This time, I left Fx running for a few seconds, and alt-tabbed back to the main window (tabbed).
It appeared to be loading info from atdt.com or atdmt.com
I wonder if there is a problem if there is one of their ads on two different tabs?
The browser doesn't refresh any other tabs than the current one.
I still be interested in knowing if someone else is seeing similar crashes....
I use Firefox and multiple tabs, but don't have the crashes you do. It would be nice to get a second or third person to confirm the issue so we can point the finger at the site or ads rather than at your machine's setup....
With the very large number of users on this site, if there is a problem with something on the site, it should be seen by lots of people.
Brad!
I never had crashing issue with firefox 1.0.7. But now I installed firefox 1.5.0.4 and it already crashed twice for past hour (both times after I clicked 'reply' so I suppose at the moment some 'bad' ad was trying to be loaded). I didn't reinstall flash, so if firefox installation didn't do that I suppose it's of the same version as before which didn't give any trouble (now it's flash 8). WinXP SP2.
Edit: 3 crashes now
I think the atdmt.com ads run a lot more frequently than any other ads.
Not sure which one might be doing it, but NoScript was allowing it last week (from way back, I suppose). I disallowed it for a while, and had NoScript pop up instead of loading the ad.
I'd be willing to try any and all ads that are available to show which one(s) might be causing the problem. Seems like posting a link to them sequentially would be all it took.
I don't like the idea of blocking ads, because that is the way that CG makes most of their money, but, if there is one party that has a problem, then it should be brought to the attention of those that should know.
I'll unblock them, but only after I can be assured that Fx won't crash, repeatedely.
I allowed the ad at vbf, while browsing CC posts. Then came back here, and crashed within 3 clicks. Definitely atdmt (or whatever)
I'll wait to hear what you have to suggest:
Just had another crash, and it was NOT from atdmt.com so there is another site that causes problems as well.
I've set my browser to Firefox 1.5.0.4. Let's see what issues I run into. So far there have been none.
Brad!
Just for correctness: I had no crashes since...
Just happened again!
EDIT: 4 more times since. I know have the AdBlock window opened in the background. Will check it's status the next time theres a crash. Mostly in the vb6 forum.
Twice today, and I know it's not from atdmt.com so something must be new.
Also noticed that bs-server was real slow today.
Keeps crashing.
First one, since, just now. Seems OK right afterwards, though.
It seems they returned optimized versions of ads - just 50% on 2.5 GHz machine.
Crashes continue. Btw, I use TabMix Plus Firefox plugin so that browser state (set of open pages) is restored automatically after each crash - sort of workaround for the problem.
Another crash! Thought it was taken care of?
Since yesterday I am also facing the same old problem of that IBM Ad taking up too much of my processor.
I thought this was taken care of earlier. :(

Brad!
Just noticed that Flash had a new upgrade - to v 9.0.x.x
I found out that I was running v 7, which could have contributed to the crashes.
i think there are ways to block these ads, Ads help grow the community further but the fact is flash ads and other type like popups make user feel a terrible exp in the community.
Already VB would consume enough of the server resources, Jupiter media would have no problem with that though.
Let's patiently wait for client computers to have some cores dedicated to run ads. Though they'd devise multithreaded ads by then.
My 1.1 GHz computer hanging again, though 2.5Ghz one bears this time.
