First of all, i like codeguru... but
The page loading time has increased 300%, maybe because of the banners above the articles.
Word wrapping seems to be a very big problem, and should hopefuly big fixed soon, its hard to read the articles. Also why is codeguru look like **** on my 1600x1280 desktop.... maybe because it's build with Frontpage? like in 800x600 hard formated pages???

I think there are more ads because nobody uses them. Alot of
sites including the old guru, use ads to support the bandwidth.
By killing all the ads you force sites to look for other ways
to get support.

Something that i noticed today is that when you go in to edit your profile it changes your password. Even if you set it to the correct password, press submit, then click edit profile again the password will be set to something
else. Could this be the cause of login failers?

The site should have remained on the old server until the new one was up and running. Most people expect things to work 100% and don't expect to be beta testers for something new. A link on the old site to the new one should have been shown which also told people that they could beta test the new site. Once all of the bugs were out, then the servers could be swapped, and with everything tested (by those who wanted to test), there would have been few problems.
Get rid of the $@#R%#$ blue wave.

That's a great idea! If Earthweb does not own any of the old codeguru code and discussion-- as they've asserted-- then someone should just take all of it and put it on their own *fast* site so we can all access it over there! Wouldn't that test Earthweb's claim? Anyone have that much space on a server?
I hate to say it, but I like the old format better. There is something about the format of developer.com that I have always found annoying, and thus never used the site. It hurts the eyes. I hope Codeguru can be customized to get its individuality and functionality back.

I'm Ravi Bhavnani and was the section manager for the MFC/C++ and Shell sections of CodeGuru. I also helped maintain the site's integrity and helped redesign the layout of the section indices.
It's true that not all section managers were informed (or knew anything about) the sale of CodeGuru to EarthWeb prior to its execution. Though I would have appreciated some sort of notification, I can't take this personally. Almost all acquisitions are bound by stringent legal requirements that state that the terms of the acquisition not be disclosed to any parties prior to the event. Zafir has been gracious enough to admit that the transition could have gone smoother. I respect that.
All I want is for CodeGuru to continue to be the single most useful collection of Windows/MFC programming tips. I'm sure many others feel the same way. I hope that after the technical and administrative issues are worked out, CodeGuru will return to this state.

In my previous reply, I stated that not all section managers were informed about CodeGuru's sale to EarthWeb. I believe this is wrong. As I understand it, *no* section managers were informed. I apologize for the error.

How about a LOW fee developer's website? I would be willing to pay a few bucks a month for access to a good, fast, quality ad free site.

It is just interesting to know that what used to be work of many is the actually the personal asset of Zafir. I personally did not know this too, thanks for the information.

I don't know any details about the sale of CodeGuru to EarthWeb. I believe Zafir was the only person (other than EarthWeb, of course) who was involved, but he's the best person to answer that.
