Gas prices.
I think this is the best answer. :thumb: (Although there can be many answers).Quote:

Well, historically, they didn't bother to bring the dogged space craft down slow.Quote:

Cilu writes his salary plus a random amount (ciluSalary + ciluRandomNumber) on a piece of paper and hands it to NoHero, without showing mrRee. NoHero then adds his salary plus a random amount (noHeroSalary + noHeroRandomNumber) to the amount given by Cilu and gives it to mrRee.
At Each step a new paper should be used so that other person doesn't know what was written on the other sheet, coz that way they will come to know about their salaries..
mrRee adds his Salary and the Random amount (mrReeSalary + mrReeRandomNumber) and passes the chit to Cilu.
Now Cilu subtracts his random number (ciluRandomNumber), passes to NoHero. NoHero and mrRee each subtract their random amounts (noHeroRandomNumber & mrReeRandomNumber) and pass. After mrRee is done, he shows the result and they divide by 3.
You got the Average Salary..
Howiz it:wave:
PS: I used the names coz I couldn't think of any other names.. Moreover these are the names that I see every hour on CodeGuru..:D
Easy enough, whatever the number of people is (3+).
The first person write on a paper the sum of his salary plus a random number.
The second person takes the paper, makes the sum of this number and his own salary writes it on a new paper.
The third person does the same
...
The last person makes the same and then gives the paper to the first person .
The first person substracts the initial random number to the total and then divides by the number of people.
Here the first person has the average salary without knowing what each has.
****, just a few seconds too late ! :eek:
I was going to suggest that one of the men beat the other two mercilessly until their need to end the pain overwhelms their desire to keep their salaries secret, but I think your solution is more elegant. ;)Quote:

VB and Elrond, you both got the solution, though they are a little bit different. The simple one is Elrond's, probaby the safer is VB's.
Cheers. :thumb:
PS: I thought it would be harder to find ;)
As long as there is a new paper each time, I'd say that VB's solution is not really safer. Unless one sees at least two papers, one cannot know what another one's salary is. And then, if one can see more that one piece of paper, no solution is really safe ...
Of course, the random number has to be big enough, much bigger than one's salary.
I would say both the solutions are same..Quote:

an easy one:
((((((((A*20)+3)*5)+B)*20)+3)*5)+C)
A=the day of your birthday
B=the month
C=the year(if 1980, just 80)
you give me the result, I can give you your birthday date....
//is this valid for this thread :rolleyes:..just for fun
