All the wasted space... It's... beautiful...
I'm glad that you've done a poll on this one Cilu!! Its really starting to p*ss me off with the Ad's taking, more or less, a third of the viewable space... Please do something about this... we don't need to be constantly bombarded with this cr*p!!
Whilst I understand that company's have to advertise on our favourite webite(s), whether we like it or not, a little appreciation would go along way in preserving the original format.
Regards
John
I couldn't work out what all he fuss was about at first, then I realised that all these offending ads are being blocked by adblock in my firefox setup. :) :thumb:
I was wrong, they haven't been blocked :(. I was looking in the wrong place.:blush:Quote:

I think JupiterMedia should do something, coz CG is the best place to hang around..:(
I think Brad and others might have started looking out for options on how to correct this.. after all they know how much we love this place..
//Ads Are Annonying Be it on TV or CG
//Thanx to CILU
When I become incensed by something, I find it difficult to read properly!

On my Linux desktop (Gnome using Firefox) its even worse! It covers half of the new reply textbox when I write a new post. Horrible. I am feel sorry to say so Brad, but this guy is completly right. Thanks god for adblock.Quote:

Long long ago there was a new site born just because of the adds problem on codeguru and that site is of course codeproject. Many of the community were unhappy with then too much commericialization and ads everywhere and the new CG management of course didn't listen. The result was codeproject. I don't see why they would listen today!
I wish there was a poll on what is the first choice of people when the look for articles 1. codeproject 2. codeguru 3. other
For me, articles is codeproject and forum codeguru.
codeguru articles have awefull presentation with all those banners in between and around!
I am wondering if people still like to browse for codeguru articles as first choice. I do if that article or similar is not there on codeproject.
Well, the one reason why this place can operate for free is because of the ads. I see the need for them, but my concern is about the fact how they screw up the layout of the page, if the ads' sizes were to be set as they were before there wouldn't be a problem.Quote:

As others have already said, the ads help pay for the site, but instead of having layed out to the right, move them to the top or bottom of the page.
Having them take that much space on the right isn't only just real annoying, it's just plain bad UI design.

There's just nowhere else to put them. If they were up top, then when they grow to triple length, they'd push the forum clear off the page. And putting them on the bottom is not an option. That's not the position the advertiser paid for.
hmm... Indeed thats a problem, so can't we contact the advertiser to make his ads smaller?!Quote:
