IMHO, sex is natural, sex is beautiful, and sex is fun. "Pornography" is a harmless activity so long as the participants (the viewer and the performer) are doing so of their own voluntary choice.
But like any pleasurable activity - it comes with certain limits that pertain to safety, and to the minimum maturity levels required from the particitpants - for example: age. Once these requirements are met then I think it (Pornography) is healthy and non-damaging.
To compare it with crime, violence and drugs is to take an absolute extreme line - and all extremes in every sphere of life are dangerous.
They should not form the basis for decision-making.
My point is, if something is dangerous (in any form), then there is no exception. You can't leave it like that (doesn't matter either it is drug or pornography). Look at all the posts that are in favor of pornography, they all says "IF .... ", and for every if, there is an else or else if. Thats where the two school of thoughts are getting seperated. What if this if doesn't get true and when it comes to general public, then it can't be true for everyone. I'm not talking about "I", but "US". For "I", it may be ture, but for "US", its not.
And I don't count only Age as the deciding parameter for this. Trust me, few years back, I use to help a friend in running his cyber cafe, and there use to come alot of men who were twice then my age (even more) and surf porn sites, you won't beleive that I had to tell them around mid-night "Come on pop, I have to close all this, you better go your home now, your family might be expecting you" and they usually ask for more time  I guess some people don't get matured with age as fast as they should be :sick:Quote:

By "age" I meant a lower limit and not upper limit. I dont mind 60 year old men / women watching porn. It is not dangerous. But I do mind 10 year olds watching it, for they risk distorting their perspective of sex and love.Quote:

I would say that anything when stretched to an extreme will get dangerous in *some* form.Quote:

Porn is no exception to this rule.
For example: If you have a society where minimum working hours are say a 100 hours / week - it is dangerous to the health of the society as a whole. But, this is no reason to generalize that doing *work* is any wrong - for that was an extreme, and exceptional situation. One must discount exceptions, and have safe-guards against them.
Similarly, I think that in most situations pornography is harmless. The law must safeguard exceptional, extreme situations where rights may be abused.
Atleast there is some point where we are following each other, that it IS dangerous :) (with the so called exceptions)
Yes, Pornography is just as dangerous as Eating, Drinking, Walking, Running and Working (when one counts the extremities and exceptions).Quote:

Like you said about guns and drugs. Right now, we're having an 'epidemic' of kids taking cough medicine and using the canned "Cleaning Duster" to get high. Are you saying that these should be taken off the market because of the few abusing it? Of course! If there wasn't any cough medicine kids couldn't get addicted to it and overdose and die. Same with the canned air.
I like guns, I like shooting. I've taken classes about safety. My Dad is a member of the National Rifle Association. So the government should take away our guns because some jerk went and shot his old lady? She suffered, yes. I agree that some things in one's life cannot be controlled by one's self. But let us NOT punish the majority because the minority can't be controlled. That totally gets under my skin!!! I'm sure you're thinking right now that you'll be reading a news article about me being shot to death by some random guy and that would be cruel irony... that may happen... but I'll take that risk. I know there are many more people that can handle the responsibility.
Punish the crime not the gun/cough medicine/canned air/porn/yadda yadda yadda...
Again about my statement about controlling yourself and take your own life in your hands, being responsible. Again, I restate that I agree there are people that do hurt other innocent people. I will not deny that. But I will also restate that they are isolated crimes you can't punish porn (or whatever) for it.
Being educated is the key. Parents that are educated about trends and drugs of their kids can ask and watch their children. Kids that are educated can understand and avoid. I do realize that there are plenty of people that don't parent and there are dumb kids and dumb adults for that matter. When we get to utopia then maybe we won't have this problem. As for now... let's leave it with: it takes all kinds to make this world go 'round.
I would also like to applaud Deniz. I am very strong in my religion as well. When I was in Junior High I took a sex education class from my church. I was also taught (and abide by) the lessons of my church. I'm an educated person in many aspects. I come from a strong family and have great friends. I'm responsible for everything I do. There's a lot of people like me out there. Just because we don't make the news doesn't mean we're not the majority.
BTW: The first two things printed on the Gutenberg press were porn and the Bible. Something for everyone... ;)
That's a very strange argument to make, particularly when you support it with things like this:Quote:

By that reasoning, as Siddhartha pointed out, you could argue for the removal of most anything from society. Every year in the US, tens of thousands of people are killed in car accidents. So I think we should ban cars. After all, "if something is dangerous (in any form), then there is no exception."Quote:

Should we shield everyone from every depiction of anything objectionable simply because a small number of people could take those things the wrong way? I think that's ludicrous.
what is sex?
just have some money you will get that & all its related things..there is no places for this..its banned here by governments..no learning on such things in school, university, etc
just wait a min on the street, realy something easy as I'm telling
marriage is something impossible here! evryone finds it useless & escape from it...
this is all the thing I know from sex & its related things :ehh:
Looks like I'm talking in circles  This small posibility won't be small when it come to everyone, not one person only. About cars, yes we use them, people got killed in accidents, so have rules, good rules because of some good reasons, to ensure the maximum safety possible for the other peoples. When people get hurt, we don't let them on there own to die. We try whatever it takes to get them fixed.
@ GG: You like to take your chances, go ahead. I have no problems with that (so far), but if I'm responsible for my people, then I'll do whatever I can, to make sure that (either small or large no. of ) my people remain safe and stable, because for me, every single one of them matters.
If you see the reality someday.. you will see that you can NOT protect every single one...Quote:

I know, and even alot of people around me won't accept that. It IS a loosing bettle, I can only delay it and may be someday, someone else will make any decision, which will do exactly what I don't want to happen, BUT atleast I would be satisfied that it wasn't ME who put someone in trouble or I won't be living enough to see that day ;)Quote:

Fact: Porn is here to stay whether or not we ban it.
Bad people who are willing to hurt others do not follow the law. They will find a way to get what they want no matter what laws they break or who they hurt in the process. That's the big gun debate here. If you tell me guns are illegal, I will turn in my guns because I'm a law abiding person but the bad guys won't. So what have we solved here? It's now harder for bad people to get a hold of guns, but they still will if they want to. Three cheers to human resolve. And now you have defenseless, innocent people.
I think it's sweet that you think all people are good and want to live in harmony and follow rules set forth to protect them. It's really a wonderful idea. But there are bad people. There will always be bad people. Sorry...

Stop acting cute, k? I've never seen a CodeGuru girl like you, for once. Oh yes, there was. Nina. :rolleyes:Quote:

Anyway, Max......why didn't you consult love expert Xeon? I told before, Max.....I can give you tons of data about porn and it's consequences to society. So, what do u want? In .mpg format? .avi? .jpg? Or do you prefer .wmv? It's very popular now, *.wmv.
Regarding porn......it's good. It helps to relieve stress.
JUST DON'T OVERDO IT.
(or else you become a sex addict)
Porn itself is not evil. It's only when someone gets too obessed that they tarnish the name and reputation of porn, k?
Also, do not confuse porn with sex slavery. I do not approve of any kind of slavery, not to mention sex. Porn is porn, it's a hobby......an art.
There's another thing about porn-watchers and paedophiles. First, paedophiles are sick animals. They get excited when they see kids.
U guys wanna hear a story?Fine.
A few days ago in my local newspaper, they ran a little article about how an online stranger send a sick message to the father of a 5 year old girl, after the paedophile saw a picture pose of the innocent baby online(some online photo family albums).
In the picture, the 5 year old little girl was standing on top of a pole(a large steel rod) lying horizontally.
Guess what the paedophile wrote in the message to the girl's father? It was something like :
"Love that pic. Yummy. I could almost see what's underneath her skirt. Dam*, I wish I was that pole."
Sick, isn't it? Indeed. Very very sick in the mind.
Like I said, it's because of such animals that give porn a bad name.
I could be watching porn every morning, but yet.......I'm still a healthy guy doing healthy things. I don't go out and be a sexual psycho, do I?
The porn industry is getting more and more innovative, and that's marvellous. In the past, it was mostly available only in JPEG files. Then came movies. Now, you get free trailers even. Real cool. Talk about porn portals. The best. This is a hobby adults gotta enjoy. Nothing to be shy or ashamed of.
A Hollywood celebrity has once said "Never trust a man who says he's not interested in porn". I know you folks know the meaning.
I'm for porn!
