Hate to say this, Ree pal.......but if you're still a beginner to programming, or you're still not a C++ expert, I seriously recommend that you drop whatever programming language you're using now and embrace C# and the .Net force.

I was a total Anti-C# and Anti-.Net guy in the past. These technologies seem to fake to me and I still clung on so tightly to C++. However, a few weeks ago, I had enough of C++ and realized finally, that the world is changing. C++ was designed during the 1970s and matured during the 1980s and 1990s, and in those early days, the main domain of the computing world was writing low-level programs and operating systems and mainframe software.

We're now in 2005, whereby everything is GUI-based and needs to be developed in fast speeds. C# combines the simplicity of Visual Basic with the power of C++, and further throws in additional features of it's own : weeding out C++'s crappy and confusing parts, and adding in time-saving and neat, consistent features of it's own.
In the end, you get new-generation stuff like garbage collection(no more memory management!), security features(needed for today's messy world) and also.......true OOP.

I mean, in the past, I thought C++ was the most OOP language you can ever find. But ever since I started learning C#, I began to realized that C++ is nothing but just the C language with OOP hooks and cling-ons built into it. That's why C++ is so messy and so arcane. You have redundant keywords(#define vs. const) and trouble-giving stuff like virtual base classes and such.

Because C# was written over a slow, patient and long period of time, it's a very well-planned and well-thought out language, immensly suited to the workings of the modern world. C++ was the exact opposite : Bjarne Stroustrup created the language during those days to solve a specific programming problem for himself and some of the peers around him.
C++ was never designed with the whole world of computing in mind back then(the world wasn't so globalized and inter-connected in those days).
Thus, in the end, you end up with some sado-masochistic language meant only for 1980s type of programming. :rolleyes:

Just go to your library and pick up some beginner's book in C#. You'll be amazed at the features it offers. It saves you from potential pitfalls like variable initialization as well.

Last but not least, C# offers more possibilities in the near future. Web services, web applications, Windows Vista-based programs, XML scripts and other .Net-related software.......are you really going to code them in C++?

As Jeff Prosise said in one interview, the language of the future is C# and the platform is going to be .Net. MFC and ATL ain't gonna see any further improvements over the years. Microsoft is aiming to slowly but steadily replacing C++ and Java with it's own propriety language(C#) and operating platform.

Also, as the EvansData survey suggests...the number of developers coding in Java and C++ has fallen from around somewhere 92 ++ % to 75 ++ %.
C++ won't go away anytime soon, but in 10 years time, Bjarne will be the only one touting his own C++ horn. :ehh:

The thing is : I smell smoke near the C++ ship. Very soon, I'm going to see smoke. Then I'll feel a little hot. Then I'll see the deck glowing with some lights. Then I'll see more smoke. Then I'll see the first sight of fire. Then the C++ ship starts to burns. Then......it starts to sink.

Never was there a better time to learn C# and .Net than now. In a few years time, C# and .Net will evolve and become more complicated. If you pick up these tools years later, you'll find that you've more than necessary to learn within such a short time.
However, if you start C# and .Net now, you can slowly learn, grow, change and evolve with the technologies. Thus, when C# and .Net matures in future, you won't have to learn the whole lot from scratch. It's going to be too late then.

Yucks! ActionScript is all about nothing but pure math and that makes me puke. In fact, I've always felt that the syntax and learning curve for a fake language like ActionScript is tougher than C++ or even Assembler. :rolleyes:

if you know Java, then Actionscript 2.0 is simple for you...I always love cool graphics as I love to draw...Flash can provide you that...it use vector graphic....it's seems fake but it's actually real:p...

check out this website using Flash....it's really cool...enter the website and try click on the wheel of fire and see how cool is that...it's really interactive......you can also beat the imp with your mouse...hit hard as it can avoid slow blow....
your website will never be so boring again!!....

I'm strongly discourage whoever learn the Flash Actionscript by using a decompiler...you'll never become a good flash programmer that way....but I'm rarely sometime learn some tricks by that:p..

I really doubt that C++ would disappear anytime soon, I mean, chances are high that the C# compilers are written in C++ ;)

You could be right, but I still have the idea that C++ will start to sink in a few years time and wil get degraded to a state whereby it becomes a fully systems programming language used to write OSes, mainframe software and low-level compilers. For GUI, web services and ordinary programs, the future is C#.

Say, Marc.....you had better consider porting your shareware's code to C# soon. :thumb::wave:

But yes, I've seen lots of very sleek and cool Flash sites. But the problem is : they're not practical enough. Unless I'm good at drawing my own artwork and cartoons etc., I won't give Flash/ActionScript a darn. :o
