In France too, you have to make at least 5 months in a company before getting you engineer diploma. These training periods are not paid, the student only get some money for his time and work. It can vary a lot from a company to another, since there is no rule about this.
But we are supposed to work 8 hours a day all the time, like a normal worker (the employee may do more, but is not supposed to). I'm not ok with students working 10 hours a day, but 8 is normal here. Also they don't earn any holidays.
The companies see in them potential employees already alert of what the company is. But to have one, it cost some time to an employee, the tutor.
I don't have to report bad behavior from the companies...

There's a lot of things for which France is not civilised yet, starting by the way a lot of companies deal with their employees. The only thing that usually makes it better than other countries is the law. It gives more to the employees than other countries do.

But on the other hand, for all the things that are not in the law (and even a few things in the law), a lot of companies have a bad behaviour, probably as bad as in other countries.

And I don't think there's any law protecting trainees!

I was just joking, although I think that in many things France is more civilized than Spain. Anyway, what has been happening in the last years with their politics has almost made me change my mind. ;)

Also note that i don't think that France is a better place, just a more civilized one. I remember when I was in Angouleme and at 7 p.m. EVERYTHING closed and suddenly, in a two minutes time, there was no one on the streets. In Paris I did have a similar impression, but not as strong, you could go out at night and there were a lot of people around (in some places). But not as in Madrid, of course.

Having americans point of view for the construction of Europe...
I think the most important here is to have an economic strength to place in front of the US economy. But we already have this, I think. Except it could be better if organised in one big entity instead of several medium-sized ones and small ones.
We can't make United States of Europe, even if I think that's what thinkers have dreamt of at the beginning.
History makes it different, it would be states with a very different culture, and a long history behind very different from one country to another (see France, Germany and Great Britain, often been enemies in the past, especially England and France!!).
Well, in the United States, as far as I know of, it was newfound land, populated by europeans at the most, and federated by the will of the newcomers (I mean here, not native, indians as we call tem generally). Considering natives were inexistant (which is false! but let's place ourselves in the head of the thinkers of that time), everything was new to build, and then I don't know really how states were drawn, when they joined the union, and so on...
I'm sorry for my lack of american history, feel free to correct me, but please don't shout, we have the right to think differently (aie!).
So Europe, what was the question?? :)
We won't make a one and homogeneous Europe. We can unify some rules and regulation, but each country wants to keep a lot of their present situation. There is no cake-shaper in which all countries of Europe will fit. But we are moving in the same direction, the will of working together, of building something together...
I don't know what I myself, think. I think I don't know enough. But this small laius tells a bit about what I know. :)))

Well it's different. I think a lot more spanish smoke at work in the office, which I appreciate we don't do much. I think we respect more the schedules, which is good for planning, meetings, rendez-vous ;) But german people would respect them even more rigidly. But It depends who and how, all the time. You can't generalize a country only by what you saw once.

Ok, I wasn't trying to generalize or to mix things.

On one hand: if France is more civilized than Spain. I think that because of what I saw the two times I was there, but also because of the french people I know and because the many things I have read about France. I have always liked your country, although I don't know if I'd like to live in there, but it fascinates me.

On the other hand: obviously in Spain we live differently from France, and I like our way of living. I said that in Angouleme everything closes at 7, but not in Paris, although after sundown you can't see many people on the streets (it depends of in what quartier you are, Montmatre will be full of people, or the streets surrounding the Pompidou, but not the place where I was staying, near the Metropolitan subway station).

Anyway, both countries have advantages and disadvantages, and I feel really stupid comparing them as I like them both really a lot. :D :D

I hope I can go back there some day, there are still plenty of things in Paris that I'll like to visit... :rolleyes: :)

People go out earlier. A reason can be that they don't really eat meals, so they don't have prepare a meal and eat it. They just go to the take away, grab some hamburger and chips, and go to the pub. When they feel like it or when the pubs close, they move to night clubs (where bars are open a little later, and are no really more expensive than pubs). Then on their way home, they grab some more food at the take away.

I supposed that about Ireland, because in London shops close at 5 and in England many pubs close at 12 or 1 a.m. the latest. I remember that in Watford (little town near London), Thursday was the great day because shops didn't close at 5 but at 7. :D :D :D

Anyway, I can assure you that in Paris there is this subway station called Metropolitan (or Metropolitain), and in Madrid we have another subway station called Metropolitano, which is the same. Umh, I have lived near both, it's such a coincidence. And yes, it's funny that they are called as the subway itself, although in Spain the subway is called the metro, not the metropolitano. Maybe a few years ago this word was used, but now it is not. :)

Or, you know metropolitain does not ONLY mean subway, don't you? It means "of the city" "from the city". A metropolitan can be someone from the city, as opposed to a peasant (well that would not be the opposite, but I don't know how to say campagnard)

Metropolitain still means Subway, and the old metalic frame indicates that this is an entrance to the subway. Now, like in Spain, people don't use "Metropolitain" any more and just say "Métro".

Otherwise, you can probably find a lot of stations called "Metropolitain" in Paris. THAT would be a little confusing, wouldn't it? ;)

I've had plenty of these misunderstandings even in my own country!

I remember when I thought that a "white week", which is something usual in some spanish Universities, was a trip to some place to sky in the snow. At it meant just a week with no lessons. My friends had such a good time laughing at me... more or less like you today! ;) :)

I have found it!!

It was the Cité Universitaire station. I haven't found any image of the entrance, but it is very similar to the one I sent. Now I don't know if at that time I wasn't really aware of its name or if I have forgotten it during these years (8).

Anyway, issue resolved. :)

Hey, it's the same all over the world, I think. Have you ever been to London?. The tube (the subway) it's really fashionable, apart from being one of the best subway networks in Europe. I remember the first time I was in there, the tube made me feel happy every time I had to take it. I think it's full of color and music (I don't know if they still allow people to play music down there, but that used to make it very happy) and each station has a special flavour (should I say flavour or taste or what?, I can't remember the right word in English). As regards T-shirts and such I do think they are really cool. I wonder why I didn't buy one... :rolleyes:

There were serious reasons or indications the first time indeed that it could be true, and it is still weird that Platinum Plus seems to have vanished as he never existed. But then again, Xeon and setting up a fake IP number? No way. This time I really don't see why there could be any such doubt.

About the tube: it surprises me to hear it is quite good. After everything we hear on the continent about their railroad problems it surprises me something good is still driving on a track in Britain.

Well, that's my opinion, but the last time I went to London was eight years ago, so things can have changed a lot. I hope the tube hasn't changed, anyway, I really liked it.

The subway here in Madrid is also very good, although I don't have the same feelings I had in London, but that's maybe because you see things differently when you're on holiday. THe other two subways I know (Paris and Barcelona) didn't seem so good to me at all... But I was in Paris seven years ago, so it might have changed and be better now. :)

The problem with the English railroad is much older than that. It has always been quite bad and having a lot of troubles and accidents, as far as I can remember. But this railway system is something different than the subway.

Since it's curently under construction

The subway in Paris is not a "happy" subway. It is full of long white-squared corridors. But, a lot of stations have their own decoration, and spririt. If you go to station Europe, you can see short cuts of european cities, at the Montparnasse station, you can read on the wall facts about the subway (since Bienvenüe constructed it, and he was from Brittany!) ;o)
At Louvres, and Bourse, you have closets ("vitrines") with things to see... Like a small visit of a museum. :)

In London, what I remember of the subway is that I was always behing a herd of french-speaking people. Annoying to hear french all around when you want to hear english!!

In Stockholm, the subway is really different. Cleaner, first! Each station has its own decoration too. There is not many corridors).
But the decoration is strange. Often the walls seem naked, to the grid that covers the concrete. But then you have the ceiling painted, or some "vitrines" too, I don't remember what to show.
Most of all, it seems empty. There is so few people there, I've never seen 50 person waiting at the same time.

I don't think Xeon has the brains to pull off a trick that is so good that nobody would see through it. Platinum Plus' posts were all in the same not serious line as Xeon, though more like a version of Xeon that does not go crazy about girls or chicken chops every 5 seconds.

Xeon equals PP had an original probability of 90% to me before I found out PP's IP number as I was moderator on Codehut, and this one is true Xeon. Xeon equals Saturno7 has a probability of 1E-255 to me.

Ok, do you want a proof?. Read my first post in the Visual C++ forum, dated november more or less. Do you really think that Xeon would have needed to ask such a basic question?.

I'm really new to Visual C++, there's too little things I know about it (increasing...) and too many I don't know. That's also the reason for having only 9 posts: I don't feel comfortable asking for basic technical questions, even if sometimes an answer will get me rid of many problems. If you compare Xeon's technical knowledge and my own one, no doubt or suspicion it's left. And do you really think that Xeon would have bothered in asking things about VC++ that he already knows? ;) :D

Actually Xeon doesn't know much either. I would base my defense upon vocabulary, word choice, sentence construction and above all, post date. As Singapore is in a completely different timezone than Spain you could probably immediately prove Xeon!= Saturno7.
