He he. The video card is the point, actually. It is a GeForce 4 Ti 4400 (pretty oversized for that PC, admitely) -- and it needs an AGP 4x. My old GF 256 passed away about 2 month ago, so I bought this one. Some three month ago, my monitor exploded (yes, literally, no joke) -- replaced that too.

So yes, I could afford a new machine, but I actually wanted to spend the money on something else. And, speaking of that, I actually do not need a faster machine. And I am getting bored to hurl a bunch of money out the window every few weeks just because some crappy component passes away :(

Actually, I am too not from people who can give last money for some new hardware device. If really, my home computer is old already . It is Celeron 333 with 320 MB RAM ... old 4MB!!! video card (i donot play games) + 40 GB hard disk, 15 inch monitor...
But for programming it is enough ... even I can watch a mpeg4 movies , but not all.
I 've been thought about buying a new motherbord + CPU + may be new DDR RAM + video card (but < than 40$... I donot play games and I donot need more).. but I have now another charges and may be can do this only to begin of autumn. :(
If really , I am getting bored to all situation , about my future ... and life at all.

I play some games indeed, but not that much to justify a Ti4400. I bought it more because I hoped to have the time to work on some graphics programming. But I haven't had spent a couple of hundred bucks on it if the old one didn't pass away.

Yeah, I like high end machines -- but as a private person I am not prepared to buy one. At least as long as I don't make money with it. And in our business, i.e. programming, ultra fast machines are rarely justified. Yes, if we did some 3D rendering, LightWave stuff or so, then maybe.

I recently got a significant faster machine at work but the build times didn't decrease correspondingly :) You can achieve much more by organizing your headers in a smart way then by spending LOTS of money for RAID arrays. My 2 cts.

This one is easy for me, all of you will picture what it is, I work for ATMs. But don't try to find in all my posts what example of code I posted, I do not work on the security part. :) And I did not post my original code (as far as I remember).

I'm working at doing front end programs that manage files and displays graphs and statistics and analysis on data coming from electrical sensors for the semi-conductor industry.

About me... I work in Antivirus Software Company . Yeh really :)
We are enough small this time but have our own products. We have clients now only here in Belarus, + some in Russia, Ukrain, soon will be Poland too. I can give a link were U can download some of our products (personal version for ex.), if someone will have interest to look at it.
As for me, I donot any work dedicated directly to viruses (but I have some knowledges about it too). Last time I've been working on Linux . I made COM/DCOM mechanizms for Linux and it can interact with the same I made for administrate of win servers. Now we have a kernel daemon and some client can interact with it with a maintance of my COM.
Last month I made a filter for sendmail post system and some else russian called MIO. And some our post providers have already my product for testing period :)
Else this year I will end a University.

A notification means that someone have written to the thread U are subscribed to. By default options U will be subscibed to every thread U have written to. So if U once wrote to this thread U will get a notification every time when someone write here. U can unsubscibe to this thread if U want.
About question, U can do what U want. There is a general discussion and it is your choice to answer or not to answer ( to beer or not to beer :D).

Why did U decide to change a country? As I remember U are from France, right? In my point of view France has more high quality of life, etc. than Ireland. This is interest for me because in future I hope that I can change country too, because of situation in my country and no any perspective for changes in near future :(

I wanted to see a little what's in the world other than France. At least I am away from the strikes ;).

I have choosen Ireland because they speak English (language interesting, that it is better to talk well, and that is the only one I really speak outside of French) while no being English or American, and while being part of the European Union (much easier and cheaper for me to get here than to go to Canada).

Finally I feel good here, and might stay for a long time. I miss a few things from France, the main being food and good roads, but except from that the place is nice, and the quality of life not too bad (as I live outside of Dublin itself, in the country side).

In your case, coming here might be a little more difficult as long as you're not in the European Union, and it's definitely not a good moment to come here to look for a job as programmer as there as been a lot of people laid off because of the international crisis (even more because a lot of empleyer are big American compagnies).

Yeh, this feeling is known for me :)
I want to see a World around me but now I cannot do this. So to change a country is a chance to do this. May be else one chance that our company soon grows up, because we ends some plans we have or may be found any foreign sponsor outside ( or the best is 1-st + 2-nd :) ). Sometimes I 'm thinking that if our company took place in our country we of course could have much more possibilities. Here we have enough big dues, many enterpraces have not money to pay for our products (and for products at all). They want to use our programs but for free because cannot pay for it. Now we are trying to begin to sell our products to near countries and extend our buisness field there. But now salaries enough low, of course they are near in 2 part more than average salary in country, but nevertheless it is not enough to begin build a life here (I mean to buy flat,...). So that all gives me boredom :(

You know, France is great, but when you travel you understand that France is not the ONLY system that exists and others can have their advantages too. :)
I also left France to work abroad, and I try now to give my french companies the best of what I have learnt abroad ...
