Now Simon666, you headbanging stud, I said nothing about Tori punishing you. I specifically stated that it would be the Goddess herself that would punish you. This is a much bigger threat!

To develop this discussion furthur, maybe interested peeps can post the evolution of their musical preferences. That's something I'm always interested in, and I'm sure we all have had our embarrassing phases that we would NEVER tell anyone about (except in the anonymity of the CodeGuru forum). Particularly include that music which you study/code in. For example:

I really started choosing my musical preferences late. I started out into bands like Queen and Rush from the seventies. This was mainly because my ma was into these, and I was really naive about what was out there. But through my friends I began getting into Metallica, Megadeath, and the whole metal scene, but that never suited me. I was much angrier than I had realized, and bands like Gwar, Deicide, Cannibal Corpse, and classic Death Metal like Celtic Frost (before their big-hair days) seemed interesting. However, then I found myself basically splitting up in two musically, with a punk side like Suicidal Tendencies, X-Ray Specs, the Damned, Sham69, GBH, and even such classics as the Sex Pistols emerging on one hand as my more favorites and on the other hand more industrial bands like Ministry satisfying my more experimental/apocalyptic cravings. Even as I grew bored with punk, I realized that it was this industrial streak which more satisfied my self-view, so I really got into bands like Throbbing Gristle, Einsturzende Neubauten and Cabaret Voltaire. For several years, Throbbing Gristle was my favorite band of all, though I experimented in japanese noise bands like Merzbow and the Boredoms. Eventually my teenage angst played itself through, and I began to find myself enjoying more mellow music from the Cleopatra catalog like Death In June and Psychic TV (a TG spinoff), and I also began listening to Dead Can Dance and related. This was probably when I started liking Tori Amos as well. Eventually, I found electronica and enjoyed the musicianship of some of the subfields. I now particularly enjoy much of the downtempo/drum-n-bass type musics, such as IDM like Muziq, DJ Spooky, Boards of Canada, etc. I have always coded and studied with music playing, and I have enjoyed doing so to all of the musics mentioned.

Anyway, there is my life-music history. Some of it I am still proud to listen to, others I have become somewhat embarrased of. I would love to hear about others' histories. I think the music you have listened to says alot about your past and present personality.

Since I'm a cheap guy ;), instead of letting my music taste develop itself, I let my listening preferences tune to radio stations. (That means no $$$ lost on CDs or other forms of music). Various stations at various times, of course. But that's only music I like to listen to. Music to play is a lot different; on the piano, I enjoy classics and a little bit of modern stuff, and when I used to play in a (school) band I enjoyed anything that had a lot of brass.

I still like heavy metal so in a way you could say I haven't evolved, yet on the other hand, metal has evolved along the years. However, I can't program with music on. It just distracts me. I also don't have a soundcard on my computer at work, I don't know whether any of you listen to these webradios? I've never wanted tosign up yet, you never know what they do with the information, I don't want to be flooded with junk mail. Anyone has experience with this? I ask this because in Belgium, since a couple of years we don't have any good heavy metal program any more on the radio.

No no......in order to charge any members for $$$, you have to do something noble, which isn't easy.

Look at me, for example : 1 year ago, there was a battle.....a terrible one......that happened in Codeguru. All of us were fighting like there's never a better chance. Gabriel lost his pets, Emi lost his hair, Elrond lost his books and was wounded, and Jase Jennings had to sell his house in order to fund us for the war.

That terrible war was started cos' some traitor(not me!) wanted to become a site manager, and overthrow Brad Jones!

Speaking of movies, there are gonna be some good ones that I'm gonna see this week. Most notably "Die another Day" and "Eight crazy nights". Adam Sandler is hilarious!
