Well, there is Confuzius ;)
Obviously, from Elrond's and Simon's speech, we all know whos' a kinder man, as well as who's the more understanding, warm-hearted and wiser one.
Elrond. Period.
Simon.....may u gotta shut down your PC and go drink milk, please. Now, I need Irona or Marina. Where are they, guys???
Oh.........! (sings)Where are the ladies? We need them now! Oh.....!(sings)
From Elrond :
Indeed, the words of a man who has observe a lot and read up books. Totally right. Just to give you an example : Singapore's nearest neighbouring country is Malaysia. We used to study the history of Malaysia in history text books. And guess what? I failed all these history tests totally, cos' like what Elrond said, if you're not interested, u dunno and u wouldn't know that much, even if it's something u're quite familiar with.Quote:
We're not used to talk a lot about all culture and philosophy things here, so it would take a lot of time to know about that if you don't learn it at school... Just try to remember what you learned at school about Asian cultures and people from a long gone past. If you are not interested about that, I'm sure you don't know that much.
Another example for you, Simon. U're really making me mad! Try to remember the names of the following dinosaurs by reading them once or twice, and then reciting them to yourself in another 2 weeks time :
That's it, Simon. Good luck.Code:Tsintaosaurus
Sinoraptor
Micropachycephalosaurus
Armagasaurus
Carcharodontosaurus
Troodon
Argentinosaurus
Sauroposeidon
Giganotosaurus
Deinonychus
Barosaurus
Kentrosaurus
Edmontonia
Dilophosaurus
Anyway, for your information, folks.......I KNOW who Socrates was long before this thread came! Once, in a magazine, a psychic in the far past proclaim him the wisest of Man.
And also, I know who Aristotle was, mind you. :p
And I know Homer and Plato too. And Soros. Ummm, Simon.....no no....that's not enough. Drink more milk to get going. Yes, that's right.
My knowledge of philosophers of any kind, either from the East or the West, really sucks like anything. :DQuote:
Xeon, can you give us a few names of well known philosopher from your region?
But like in the West, I know only of a few Eastern philosophers, and they're Confucius(not "Confusing"), Mencius and Lao Zu.
Just to let you know, Lao Zu has one saying that we really should learn from :
Probably this saying doesn't apply to wise men like Elrond, but for teenagers who dunno where they're heading in life and such, it can be useful, mind you.Quote:
"A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step."
Also, it applies to your long-term goals which are hard to achieve too.
For example, in the case of Simon, he wanna be the Lord of the Earth and drop atomic bombs on every country every millisecond.
So, his first step is to learn more Satanic stuff and get more evil, and then recruit scientists and start making a home-made bomb, and slowly........u get the idea. :D
Anyway, Elrond.........u seems to be deeply fascinated by fantasy, the works of shakespeare, literature and everything about philosophy. But then, I myself enjoy classics like King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.
This classical series entitled "The Chronicles of Narnia" was totally awesome too. In fact, it's been my favourite storybooks all these while.
Maybe some so-called "adults" like Simon thinks it's childish, but it offers lots of insight into our every life too. Read more of such stories and behave like these gallant knights of the high past.
For example, Merlin in the King Arthur classics said that :This means that when a man has achieved all he can and has, his time is almost up and that his downfall is arriving. Now, this applies to many a great politicians and warriors in history, as well as empires, countries, reigns, and even beasts : from the mighty dinosaurs of the great past to Adolf Hitler. :)Quote:
"When a man reach the crowning of his glory, his job is done and God shatters him."
Anyway, enough discussion on such stuff for tonight. Oh yeah! I almost forgot I gotta code in Visual C++. :D
See you, Elrond! :)
Finished drinking the milk, Simon? Faster, kid! Faster!
Arf you are quicker ;)Quote:

I'm not so sure about that :p Imagine you were trying to become a politician :DQuote:
Satan [...] would be a lot cooler however... :D
But I already know some of them. And some of them are easy to remember: Sinoraptor (= predator from China), Argentinosaurus (= lizzard from argentina). A pachycephalosaurus is one of those with an extra thick skull (<= encephalo), together with micro it is new to me. Deinonychus I already new too, it is actually more like a velociraptor in Jurassic Park. Velociraptors are only 60 cm big while as Deinonychus (= terrifying claw I think) is around 180 cm. So the movie got it wrong. And Charcarodontosaurus is I think the big one in Jurassic Park 3. And the Barosaurus is a recently discovered dinosaur, I think it is the heaviest yet (baro => heavy) and looks like one of those Brachiosauri. The others are new.Quote:

The infamous trader and public enemy no. 1 to the Malaysian government during the Asia crisis? :D I am glad you already know that much of Western civilisation. The fact that we do not know much about China is also their fault: they always were a closed society and still are until today.Quote:
And Soros.
I read those too as a kid. But that is a very long time ago. The cupboard and the lion and so, I forgot most of it already. The writer of those stories was friends with Tolkien, I know that also. And I've heard something like they were planning to mak films of those books too. Anybody knows something about that? I'm curious.Quote:

I'm following a course by professor Ozzy Osbourne entitled "How Do I Become the Fucking Prince of Darkness" in three lessons. I'm now busy drinking bat blood. :DQuote:

Especially when you have a close dead line. :D:D:D
I'm NOT trying to become a politician, I'm trying to become a politician slayer :D . Simon666 the Politician Slayer, how does that sound? They could make a nice TV series of me. Would be better than that crappy Buffy stuff(y). ;)Quote:
I'm not so sure about that :p Imagine you were trying to become a politician :D
Ok, you are officially weird :p
Finally. All my life I'm waiting for recognition. :D Now seriously, I was a nerd as a kid (probably still) and I still look like one. Now, has anybody heard of any plans to make a film of those books?Quote:
Ok, you are officially weird.
From Simon666:
Hmmm......I'm pretty suprised that u know their meanings, but that's cos' you know the language, Simon baby! After all, most dinosaur names are base on Greek and other European languages......aye~.Quote:

Rubbish! Velociraptors are somewhere around 1.2 to 1.6 metres long, and are slightly shorter than a man. Deinonychus is much larger; some have stood at around 1.8 metres and over 2 metres.Quote:

And no. Charcarodontosaurus is not that big one in Jurassic Park 3. That big one shown in JP 3 is Spinosaurus.
And no. Barosaurus isn't recently discovered. It was discovered long ago! I know there's a grand and magnificient display of a towering Barosaurus mother in extreme action VS. an Allosaurus in a museum in Europe, I think. If not, then it's in America.
And no. :p Barosaurus isn't heavy for it's size. It's pretty light compared to it's counterparts.
Anyway, u're forgiven, Simon. After all, if you were to ask me the same thing about Satan and religions and such, I wouldn't know much too. So, we're quits in this aspect.
Nah! Soros was a philosopher from Britain in the past, I think.Quote:

As for China, aye.......~! It's all because Western schools don't show much interests in such countries, whereas Eastern schools, on the other hand, taught the students bits of Western civilisation and such......at least, that happens in Singapore.
When I was 16 years old, we actually have topics like the history of America, Russia and China.
But then, these topics are very very very very very brief and there's not much details. More like those introductory books etc. :)
The series were :(in order)Quote:

1) The Magician's Nephew
2) The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
3) The Horse and his Boy
4) Prince Caspian
5) The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
6) The Silver Chair
7) The Last Battle
Wow! Really cool stories, I tell you. And no.....I dunno any films about these books......no news or anything.
But I do know that this great film called "Batman VS. Superman" is gonna be out in American cinemas pretty soon. Also, the "Incredible Hulk" movie is coming out too.
Currently, they're making the sequel to Spiderman,
But Simon.......I know there's this new game called "Narnian Survivors". Do a search on the Net and u should find it. It's for the PlayStation, if I'm not wrong.
That's the good part about you, Simon. Although u're obviously the dreaded CEO of Satan.com, Devils.com, ****.com, HellAndBeasts.com etc......u're pretty honest with us real men. That's the nice part.Quote:
Finally. All my life I'm waiting for recognition. Now seriously, I was a nerd as a kid (probably still) and I still look like one
Go to the gym to do some extreme training, get a really tall and spiky hair-style and do gurls every minute. That way, u'll be the feared Satan himself. If not, at least, you have the spirit of one of those 4 Horsemen in you.
This guy called Simon wanna make himself Overlord of Earth, and he wanna destory everything, whether it is Darkness or Light, be it Bush or Saddam. He doesn't care. One of the ancient annals says that on 6th June(6) 2006, the Ancient Beast will be awaken and will take the form of a human.Quote:

Bush.......aim all your missles at Simon's home in Belgium instead of Iraq. Com'on Bush? Had your chicken chop lately? What u waiting for???!!!
From Elrond :I would like to congratulate Elrond's new wife for getting such a husband. Obviously, men like him are extinct. Aye~!Quote:
Even to wise men this applies. Even wise men sometimes have trouble to take one step at a time.
Especially when you have a close dead line.
Now, we should all follow in Elrond's example and adopt an attitude of not being proud or arrogant, and we must learn all the time. Thank you, Elrond. :)
Eh Simon? What u doing??? Stop drinking that beer! That's for real men! Drink milk! Again, where have those ladies gone to???!!! :D :D :D :D
About other dinosaurs you are correct. As far as velociraptor size is concerned, I refreshed my knowledge and searched on the web. It seems its height depends on the source. Here they say it has a hip height of 50 cm, here they say one meter. It also probably depends on the finding location and such.
That is for alcoholics. I only drink beer while eating food, otherwise as good as never. And further on the real man thingy: do you know that beer contains substances that resemble females hormones, at least if the beer is based on hop (grain species, do not know whether this is English). There is ofcourse the sexist joke that drinking beer makes you a woman: your talk becomes really annoying and nagging and also your driving skills become cr*p.Quote:
Eh Simon? What u doing??? Stop drinking that beer! That's for real men!
And nothing about France?!?!? What pity! It once was the greatest country in the western world :rolleyes:Quote:

Obviously, I never learned anything about Singapore...
Despite of what the French may think, France isn't the center of the universe, let alone of the world. :D Take it from a Belgian. :pQuote:

That's why I said "once was"!!! It didn't last long, but it's more than Belgium can say. :oQuote:

Sorry, didn't read that. Well, you know what they say. Self knowledge is the first step to self improvement. Take Brittain, they still think they're an empire and it is necessary to go onto imperialistic adventures against a specific developing country. France isn't that bad as neighbour, we just like to make fun of you a bit, and I'm sure it is mutual. ;)Quote:

True. The way of the Beast.Quote:

From Elrond:
Yes, yes. I know that. That was before Britain became strong. Anyway, Napoleon must have been your idol, eh? This fearless warrior fought enemy after enemy after he was finally defeated at Waterloo......a pity.......may God revive his spirit and send it into Elrond!Quote:
And nothing about France?!?!? What pity! It once was the greatest country in the western world
I believe also that France used to be called Brittany in the fast past.
:D
Now, since when have I said that???!! :p I guess I didn't phrase my speech properly. :)Quote:

No need to feel bad, Elrond. After all, Singapore is too small a country can be be destroyed in 1 minute with 1 - 2 powerful atomic bombs. But just for your reference and something for your wise mind, Singapore was founded by an Englishman called Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles in 1819. Now, that's something for you to talk about if you ever go into a battle of wits/history with your friends at a party and u run out of words to say. :DQuote:
Obviously, I never learned anything about Singapore...
France.....yes. That's true. Although France is not as powerful as the US in military powers, I know that the French are very perculiar in fashion and food, especially food.Quote:
And even now, France is still the greatest nation of all, for food and self esteem...
That's why it's always kinda tough to chat with a French about food, cos' they tend to be kinda particular and fussy and picky and such, which explains quite a number of the top chefs are from France.
All I know is that the French are quite different from the other Europeans in the way they carry themselves and such. Kinda.......well.....just different.
U know, they say that if you learn French, gurls tend to get impressed. Is that true, Elrond????!!!
If it's true, is it because of the accent? Or are those French words just too erotic and sexy and they turn gurls on???!!!
If so......I really should go and learn French......:D
The other thing is : does anyone here knows which country Chicken Chop belongs to? Is it Britain? Or does it originate in France? Chicken chop......ohhhh...........my room is flooding with extremly sticky saliva......oohh.........chicken chop........CHICKEN CHOP......ohhhh......awww.......
Also, speaking about French and France, recently in Singapore, there's a small hype over a new French movie starring 8 women. Some of the gurls were pretty, mind you. :D
Lastly, the verdict is out : the 3 real men who helped to bring this "Where are we from" thread to 100 pages is :
Xeon
Elrond
Simon666
May these 3 Coders be remembered in the revered history of Codeguru. These are the men who would charge first, retreat last, and save all women in war and would follow the Code of War : Never kill the helpless and never take it out on women.
These are the chilvarous and gallant knights of the day.
