Well the birth and the nationality part I covered, but right now I'm in Regensburg Bavaria(mmmm..... beer country) because I'm doing a study abroad and an internship. It's cool here, the Bavarians know how to drink(I think that if I drank that much my BAC would be high enough to kill me...... isn't beer great :D ).Quote:

And how about Ireland, and probably a lot of other countries. It is difficult to compare as well because they might be different types of alcohol drinking.
French for example will rarely drink a lot at one time, but have one or two glasses of wine with most of their meals. That can be a lot at the end of the week. But that does not really make them heavy drinkers. :rolleyes:
Irish on the other end, will drink only one to three evenings a week and almost nothing the rest of the time, but on these occasion, they can drink a lot. I have heard recently that they don't feel like they have been drinking at all before reaching at least the 6th pint of beer. And most are easily able to drink 10 or more during the night. :p
And I am sure other countries will drink different types of alcohol, and in different ways. :D :D :cool:
6 pints... Hum, if it's Guiness then that's a LOT. 6 pints of normal beer is Ok though.
Well...since we are talking about some other countries: In India people dont drink beer or wine, instead they drink Whiskey. Only very very rare people dring beer and the rest drinks water or juice :D

Actually it depends. I was talking about beers in general.
As for me, I would be able to drink many more pints of Guinness than of any other beer, because there is less gaz in Guinness than in most other beers. But I have never reached the 10th pint so far, and I am not drinking as much as I used to, so I guess I'll never reached that number ...
Well, english beer doesn't have much gas in it either. There were times at university where I got past my twelfth beer. Guinness fills too much and in any case, I take about half an hour to fourty five minutes to drink a Guinness (yeah, savour it ;) )

You probably have to savour a Guinness when you cannot have as many as you want, but I don't have this problem, so I am not always savouring it.

All the previsions we have made about the after war in Irak not being well planned, about the WMD not existing and the links with Al Qaida being a legend and the terrorism being more powerful than ever mostly seem right as well.
Unfortunately, the Iraqii civilians and the US (and other coalition) grunts are those who pay for that. And it seems that it will go on for a long time.
If only all that could be solve and forgotten over a pint (of whatever you like) ! We would live in a better world. :rolleyes:

Being an American, it's difficult to say. Kerry does have a decent support base and bush's ratings have been slipping quite a bit. So alot of things could change rather quickly and unexpectedly, to be perfectly honest I didn't expect bush to win the last one, atleast not by a slim chance. Plus if Congress and the Senate become predominantly dominated by Democrats, bush will have a hard next 4 years. The Republicancs and Democrats are pretty much a to the death struggle, none will give in to the other side, no matter what, so if the congress and senate are for the most part dominated by democrats, nothing will fly that bush will try to put forward. By the way simon, about saying that you're glad about not being an american you don't know what you're missing :p .

I'm from Belgium. My opinion is they are a bit more religious than us Belgians, a certain number seem to want religion to have an influence in politics - which I find quite dangerous - as reflected in abortion, gay marriage, euthanasia and a lot of them completely not understanding that the US system is not the only one that works and that people in other countries like their system (think it means they hate America or freedom). Europe's system is regarded by a number as socialist, but not in a good way, as socialist = communist. The resident onboard member here I know to be guilty of the latter is Mick. For the rest they're okay, just too bad they voted - or didn't vote, depending on what you like to believe - an asshole in charge.Quote:

An article I've just read resumes well enough the situation. Two years and a half ago, just after september the 11th, almost all the world could say: "We are all Americans". It's all right to fight agaisnt coutries that support terrorism, but it's more difficult to accept when economical reasons seem to be one of the main reasons for the choice.
The war started to give freedom and democracy to the Iraqii people. But for the moment, because of the behaviour of the US army, they feel as an invaded country. They feel they have less freedom than before. They feel they are dying more than before. And the American type of democracy is not what they want, and it's not what they need. It may work out for America (even if the last presidential election was very doubtful) but not does not suit all cultures. It's all right to want to spread freedom around the world, but for that you need to understand what local population want. They may not want the American way of life. They have their own culture. Don't force them into your freedom that may be as prison for them
The war started to free Iraqii people from the tortures inflicted by Saddam Hussein. Look at what the US army did. Hopefully it is the fact only of a few. Hopefully it is not an order from Rumsfeld. But Rumsfeld knew and did nothing, at least for some time. You want to teach values to the world, you want to teach democracy. So you should respect the values, and make people who make serious mistakes pay. Rumsfeld should have been fired. Gantanamo should not exist.
Well, America is showing the opposite of what is says it want to teach. I don't like this America. Hopefully it will change soon. I don't know if Kerry is any good. I know Bush is bad and dangerous. He said he wanted to make the world a safest place. He made it a more dangerous place. But may be it is to his own advantage as in a dangerous world he may seem a "better" choice than Kerry.

Ok, I got it. However, I really don't think bombing the BeJesus out of us is going to solve anything. Yes Bush made the decision to go to Iraq primarily because he wanted to get rid of Saddam/(maybe) oil.
The one reason why enjoys so much support is because he did handle the terror attack well(err... better than Gore in my opinion). Unfortunately the actions of my president have a strong impression on the people here in europe. One guy that I talked to assumed that most common people in America are a bunch of idiots, now I don't really consider myself not that out of the ordinary and most "common" people aren't usually the top of the crust(in terms of intelligence) regardless in which part of the world that you look. And one thing that I've been waiting to vent is something against one french kid(actually I have no beef against the french on general basis for the most part), his comment was(roughly)....

I personally have nothing against the idea of owning guns, afterall, that's something that some Germans have, since they're hunters and all. As far as I'm concerned having a rifle(a normal one, not an assault AK-47 rifle with a grenade launcher) for hunting/shooting for sport(cans, bottles, rocks, brick, etc.) However, the idea of carrying around a machine gun or some other anti-tank concoction is just plain nuts.

Simon you're forgetting that there are fewer people in the States with guns rather than those without them than most people think in the world. Also, there's a reason why there are laws for regulating fire arms, so that they won't fall into the wrong hands, it's something called the Brady Bill(how unfortunate that it had come to be after a US president was shot and was wounded and another man was paralyzed). As for extensive government regulation of private businesses and lives, personally I'd have to side on this one with Mick. I don't want the government to look into my everyday life, all I want to do is pay my taxes, obey all of the necessary safety regulations(laws that ensure the safety of workers on the job, no children are used, no toxic materials are dumped on public grounds, etc.) and live in peace. Ultra-environmental-protectionism, come one, that's one of the best scams I've ever seen to date. 20,000 years ago, when people lived, there were no factories, cars or powerplants and temperatures still varied by as much as 10 to 20 degrees celsius!!! However, rules that regulate waste disposal and the protection of important areas of wilderness and where people live, I support, but the Kyoto Protocol, hmmmm..... I'll stop there on that one.
