there is a planet where females and males are undistiguishable to Earth people. It is also known for this planet that males always tell the truth and females not always (that's pretty much Earth like :p) but if a female says two setences one is 100% true and the other is 100% false but the order is unknown. An Earth explorer lands on the planet and meets a family with a child.
"Are you a boy or a girl?" the explorer asks the child. It replyes something on the local language which the explorer dindn't know. "What did it say" he asked the child's parents. The first one replyed "It said it were a boy" but the sedcond parenrt said "It said it were a girl. It lied."
What are the genders of the 3 extraterrestrials?

Assuming one of the parents is male and one female:
Either (1)"It said it were a boy" or (2)"It said it were a girl. It lied" was said by the father and therefore true.

If (1), then the child said it was a boy, and (2) is the female, the first sentence must be a lie, but the child didn't lie, so this is unfeasible.

So the male must be (2). But if the child said it was a girl and lied, then it must be a male, but males don't lie, so this too is impossible.

Returning to the first assumption this must be false. Therefore the parents are either both male or both female.

If the parents are both male, then (1) and (2) are both true, but directly contradict each other.

Therefore both parents must be female. Since (1) may or may not be true, it has no bearing on the situation now. So now (2a) is "It said it were a girl" and (2b) is "It lied." One is true and one is false.

If (2b) is true, then the child must be a girl because only females can lie, meaning (2a) is also true, which gives a contradiction.

Therefore (2a) must be true and (2b) false. So the child said she was a girl and was telling the truth.

So all three members of the family are female.

Well the F/F/F combination would work... but you're right I screwed up: the female child says "I'm a male." The father says "It said it was a boy," then the mother says "It said it was a girl (lie), it was lying (true)."

Fortunately, there are only four configurations:

1. The first parent is male, the second female, the child male (MFM)
2. The first parent is male, the second female, the child female (MFF)
3. The first parent is female, the second male, the child male (FMM)
4. The first parent is female, the second male, the child female (FMF)

So we can look at them one by one:

1. MFM: The child is male, so he correctly states to be a boy. The father correctly confirms this. The mother states "It said it was a girl" (first lie) and "It lied" (second lie). As one of the two statements must be true, this configuration can't work.
2. MFF: The girl might or might not tell the truth. Let's look at the first case, assuming it tells the truth, stating "I'm a girl". The father states "It said it was a boy". That would have been a lie, so it's impossible. In the second case (the girl lied) it would state "I'm a boy". The father would correctly confirm that. The mother would first say "It said it was a girl" (the lie) and "It lied" (the true statement). So this configuration works. Assuming there is only one solution, we could stop here. For the sake of completeness, let's look at the other configurations too:
3. FMM: Again, the boy correctly states to be a boy. We can ignore what the mother says, as the father (now the second parent) can impossibly state "It said it was a girl", or "It lied". Both would be lies, so we can rule out this configuration too.
4. FMF: Again, let's assume first that the girl told the truth. Again, we can ignore what the mother says (as she only makes one statement) However, the father would say "It said it was a girl" (which is true) and "It lied" (which is false, and therefore can't apply). Assuming the second case (the girl lies, stating "I'm a boy"), we run into the same trouble: The father can't correctly state "It said it was a girl", so we can rule out that configuration too.

So the only possible configuration is MFF: The child is a girl (which lies), the first parent is the father and the second the mother.

(BTW: The hardest part in this thing is not to get confused with 'M' and 'F' standing for male/female vs. mother/father... :D)

Here is a simple one

You have two cans of 5 and 7 liters ...how will u measure 11 litrs using only these and no other ..

1. First, fill the 7 liter can up to the top and pour it into the big bucket.
   Result: 7
2. Fill the 7 liter can up again, and from there, put as much fluid as you can into the 5 liter can. You will have two liters left in the 7 liter can. Pour these into the big bucket.
   Result: 9
3. Repeat step 2.
   Result: 11

another simple one...
1)you have two empty container one is 5lb another is 3 lb
2)how do u fill your 5lb container with exactly 4 lb of water?

1. Fill the 3lb container with 3 lb, pour it into the 5lb container. Fill the 3 lb container again with 3 lb, and pour as much as you can (2 lb) into the 5 lb container.
   Result 5lb is full, 3lb contains 1 lb
2. Discard the contents of the 5lb container and pour the 1lb from the 3lb container into the 5lb container.
   Result: 5lb contains 1 lb, 3lb is empty
3. fill the 3lb container fully up and pour its contents into the 5lb container.
   Result: 5lb contains 4lb, 3lb is empty.

I don't know if this one has been posted yet, but it's a pretty hard one.

100 american tourists get captured by cannibals. Of course they get the token chance to go free if they pass a certain test. The test in this instance is the following: each one will recieve a hat that's either blue, red or white. They will be put into a big circle, so that everyone can see all the hats, except their own hat. Then the chief will go around asking people at random which color their hat is. If the person answers correctly, then that person goes free.

The question is, with which strategy can you save the maximum number of people ?

P.S. When the cchief asks them which color theeir hat is, they can only answer "red", "blue" or "white". They are not allowed to talk to each other while being in the circle.

P.P.S Before being rounded up, they have one hour to decide on the best common strategy that will save the most of them.

It means that each person can see the 99 other people and their hats. They can't see their own hats though.
