Here's a hint:
possible arrangements:
G D I
G I D
D G I
D I G
I G D
I D G
If you could use your first question to find out where the idiot isn't, then on your second question you know you are getting a reliable (whether true or false but at least not random) answer. For example,
Asking the person on the left your first question,
Answer
G D I - Yes
G I D - No
D G I - Yes
D I G - No
I G D - ???
I D G - ???
If the answer was "yes," then you know the middle person is not the idiot, and you should ask him your second question. If the answer was "no," then the person on the right is not the idiot, and you should ask him your second question.
The trick is figuring out the first question, but I think this should help a little ;).
Another thing to add: considering the chart in my previous post:
G D I - Yes
G I D - No
D G I - Yes
D I G - No
I G D - ???
I D G - ???
But considering that D always lies, here is what the actual answer to the question you ask should be:
G D I - Yes
G I D - No
D G I - No
D I G - Yes
I G D - Doesn't matter
I D G - Doesn't matter
In other words, the answer to the question depends on the relative positions of the people.
Moderator, you rock ! :D:wave
I can't express how many of these figures I've written down. I've tried all the things that seemed similar to the traditional 2-person liar / truth where you use indirection, but I haven't had luck yet. But you've given me some more inspiration. I'll try harder...
Ok...
So you just ask the lefter if the midller is an idiot.
Go to the one indicated by the yes / no as SolarFlare hath provided.
You know they are all or nothing, truth or lies.
Ask them if they are the idiot.
God would say nay, the devil yes.
If god you can ask whether one you pick of the other two is an idiot. Similar with the devil. You know whether the answer is a lie or not. Either answer will clarify who is the idiot and who is the other not found (god or the devil).
Si?
But then...Quote:

G D I - No
G I D - Yes
D G I - Yes
D I G - No
I G D - ???
I D G - ???
If yes, the following combinations remain:
G I D - Yes
D G I - Yes
I G D - ???
I D G - ???
If no:
G D I - No
D I G - No
I G D - ???
I D G - ???
You have not conclusively shown where the idiot isn't with that question. :(
...
Your second and third questions work, though :thumb.
Eep!
That doesn't work and I was thrown into this spiral until...
???Is god next to the devil???
Then I thought of cyclic permutations.
??Is the arrangement a cyclic permutation of GDI??
Ask this one to the lefter.
You get these responses
Yes
No
Yes
No
??
??
as requested. Here the devil's lie works perfectly for maintaining the correct response for determining the midler.
Is this it, or did I goof again?
Yep that'll do it. You can sleep sound tonight ;). Or more simply, "Is the idiot to the right of the devil?"Quote:

Convenient that this question/answer takes up exactly a page (on 10 posts/page) ;).
simple
9 years , 2years and 2 years
Is this like Jeopardy where you give the answer and we have to give the question?Quote:

Well, it would be interesting to know what the questions are...Quote:

To the left person:
1. Is the idiot on other place than middle?
To the people in the middle or right known not to be the idiots from the first question, which was already posted:
2. Is god on other place than right?
3. Is devil on other place than left?
2 3
G D I N N
G I D N N
D G I Y N
D I G N N
Only the answers in the third possition are valide, so God is in middle and idiot is at his right.
