Maybe the internet, is like, wait a sec, maybe it's, one GIANT little pop-up, you know, one huge big one all of its own, maybe.
or maybe the internet is just one big massive portal for making money... you know, like the rest of the world.. its possible think about it.
And as for the popups, I find that the little 'x' on the top works wonders.
Hmm except I don't recall any gopher servers popping up anything back in the day ;)Quote:

It's all this http poop....make it go away...give al gore back his internet....
I've asked brad about this, we'll see what he's got to say...it's not spyware..since I get this crap on a virgin laptop...and some of us use a number of accounts, some of them include anti-pop-my butt software, some of them don't and you use your own...but that matters not...I dont' want the software development forum I visit to ask/answer questions to get into this kind of crap...and it is crap, what next, change your privacy policy and start spamming everyone??? I view your ads contained in your layout...is that not enough???
so where is the beef??? ahh right that hunk of moldy slap was no purchase necs.......
Brad needs a screen capture of the offending popup...first one to get it wins a gold star...and a stale cookie... :) :) :) I'd do it, but you know i'm retarded when it comes to gui things :p
As Mick mentioned, I need a screen shot of the pop-up. I asked our main office about this pop-up (because Jupitermedia really try everything we can to avoid pop-ups). They asked for a screenshot so we can track down what the pop-up is and where it is coming from.
(I've not gotten the pop-up since the time I asked about it, so I've not been able to capture it....)
Brad!
where is my gold star :D

Thanks.
I've passed the image/link on. They are looking into it. I have one other request.
If someone gets the pop-up again, please look at the current page you have displayed and let me know what ads are showing (check top, side, bottom).
As I've mentioned before, we generally don't like pop-ups, so this has a few 'higher ups' asking some questions....
Brad!
Mick's gold star:
There is still popup but since like someone there ,I amnot using IE, it couldnot pop up, Thanks for your suggestion,..
I just had it a few minutes ago. Don't know if it's significant but the "Doctor, is there anything you can do" advert was at the top, the bottom AND the side (i.e. all three were ads for the same product).Quote:

Again, I don't know if this is significant - but I've noticed that it tends to appear when I use the "back" key on my browser. 90% of the time it doesn't happen. It tends to happen after I've been away from CodeGuru for a couple of hours - then it happens either the first or second time I use the "back" key after returning to the board.
Hope that helps.
Thanks John. I'll pass this information along and see if it helps.
Brad!
You really did let open a filthy can of worms didnt ya :DQuote:

A bit more information about the popup.....
It just happened again on my machine and "jobs.internet.com" was in the top and bottom adverts, whereas "Hardware Central" was in the sidebar. Since it happened, those same ads have appeared in the same positions though without causing the popup.
Interestingly, this time it happened the 3rd time I used the "back" button after being away from the boards for a while.
Whatever is doing this seems to be doing its job quite intelligently. It makes sure that you don't see the popup often enough to recognise a pattern. However, I can make it happen reliably by leaving CodeGuru for a couple of hours, then returning, clicking on somebody's post and then hitting the "back" button. If it doesn't appear first time, it will usually appear very soon afterwards.
It just happened again. This time, Tech Jobs was at the top, Linux World at the bottom and HP/Compaq at the side. I don't think this is being caused by any particular advert.Quote:

However, once again, I'd been away from the CodeGuru site for a couple of hours and it occured the very first time I hit the "back" button after returning to the site.
Seems to be quite consistent.
Thanks. You have provided the information needed. I've been told that they are tracking down the issue and getting it fixed.
Brad!
My pleasure....
It often happens right shortly after I arrive and then quite regularly (every 10 or 20 page changes). It doesn't seem to be ad related (I just got it when the new page was itSMF very top, VersionTracker on top / bottom, HardwareCentral on the right -- unfortunately didn't see / remember the previous page). Maybe I'm getting it more than others?
Everytime I've received it, it seems the itSMF conference ad was at the very top. Not that that is unlikely, just a point. However, it doesn't happen every itSMF page, but I wouldn't think it'd be too hard to put in a randomiser. The only thing is, all it appears to be is
