My definition of geek would have to be option 2...
However, I don't think single-minded is fair! Most "geeks" I'm acquainted with know more than technical mumbo jumbo!
I guess my question boils down to looks or brains? I am way more attracted to smart people that cute ones. NO REALLY!
The geek category of the smart people group is even better because of their perceptions of life and the world around them. Never a dull moment with a geek!! Smart guys that are geeky get that "aww how sweet" thing going for them in the looks department.

Your definiton is not clear. There are many groups that fall between your net: For example me: Most say I am a genius on that what I am doing: Programming, logical thinking and - if I am interested in the topic - Mathematics. But I do not have good marks. Because I am lazy and to apathic and the things I do not like, and I am some kind of weird ... (miaou :) )... So do not forget the default: statement in your man type switch.

There seems to be a dire need to overanalyze my question. A geek, in definition and so forth, is one who has been called such. You know what a geek is; everyone does! Movies, TV, whatever... there is a social perception and unchanging stereotype when someone utters the word "geeeeek". Webster will never be able to define it. A geek is who (s)he is. :)

They know nothing. But there must be something behind it otherwise there wouldn't be any norms. To get back on the geeks: These are just fictive imaginations on how geeks should look like ... This is only prejudice and it is far away from reality. There are no geeks: There are just people with mental disseases and sometimes they are also interested in techniques. This is what a geek supposed to be. But a geek is just a look-down word that tries to catch every technique fan ... Like a base class that does not handle specified base classes. Forget the switch one... :D

But I still think skinny guys with glasses who happen to be mathematically/technologically advanced who think a good time is getting together to play Halo and discuss Lord of the Rings in Klingon are a lot of fun!

BTW: How far have you gotten in the Stinkoman game?

well, if you want to know more about nerds (which is only a small step to being a geek) and how narrowmindedness and special interest help defining such guys, have a look into the "any other interests " thread!

if trying to decide whether a person, be it a geek or not, is hot, why not look at a photo? post one! i'm looking forward to it.

BTW: amiga rulez!

I agree with ****eygirl here. Outward appearance doesnt matter as much when you know you're talking to someone who has sense in them... and knows how to have fun. ;)

in my schools there are girls who are very intellignt, wars spectacles, always with books, shy and sweet, they are considered HOT!!

just come to any malaysian school or university... you'll find alot like them, but should warn you they are very shy, innocent and not socially active. its vry hard to communicate with them, expecially for men...

I'm sure youll do fine with them since youre also a girl... :D

/I wanna also take my masters, but don't now when... very busy working.. :(

Okay, first of all... its nice to see someone still takes chances. But d00d, you didnt look at all the possible angles, and based on these tidbits you mentioned here, the odds are against you... and that's the consequence... :p :D

All I can say is... next time, make sure that there is a possibility she'll return your feelings, so that you wont get hurt when you do take the chance to ask her. ;)

youre assuming, that my girfriend is hot, which implies that there are actually hot geeks (she's an oracle database engineer). to be honest, i wouldn't call her a geek as she's only dealing with this it and technology stuff to earn money (as i do).

at the software engineering school i attended, there were some really really hot ladies (including my girlfriend), but also - as far as i, as a man, can judge - some nice men!

i also have to state, that those guys, that would optically be identified as geeks (this glass-wearers), did not neccessarilily perform well in mathematics or programming and the like at the school i mentioned above.

There are either intelligent one's here or not so hotty ones. A combinition of both is rare... But none of them actually like programming, mathematics or such things, that would make her geeks. I think they are all at the wrong place. Like 80% of the rest.
