For the Animal lovers out there.. (Serious)
This morning we woke up to the feint meowing, that sounded like it came from inside the walls.. After a little look around we found where it came from.. Inside this 4 inch gap between the neibours and our property.
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r...mage_00014.jpghttp://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r...mage_00015.jpg
After 3 hours of rescuing attempts the poor kitty eventally held on to a netting that we dropped in to pull her the 4 meters out..
This gap in the walls runs for about 10 meters and is atleast 4 meters deep from the top..
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r...mage_00016.jpg
After a few hours at the vet for a check up and a few feeds the poor little kitty is now the newest member of our family...

http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r...mage_00023.jpg
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r...mage_00018.jpg
She is ONLY 2 WEEKS old and spent atleast 24 hours alone in this hole, kittens this age require feeds every 3 hours..
Even the Vet commented that she has a will and fight to live..

Re: For the Animal lovers out there.. (Serious)
Thats a really good deed... :)
I am just wondering - what would keep other kittens from falling in again...
-
Re: For the Animal lovers out there.. (Serious)
We looking into closing up the gap with rubble and cement. A nearby friend is doing some construction and has about enough to close in the gaps..
Back to Milli... (Silly Milli) thats what we calling her...
We got special formula called "Kittymilk", 5 - 10 ml every 2-3 hours, I got first night shift (now till 12) and Shaz will do the morning shift (12 - 6 ). And after every feed, wipe the bums with warm moist cotton wool. Then its snooze time for an hour or two..
We now have lots to keep us busy for the next few weeks... ;)
-
Re: For the Animal lovers out there.. (Serious)
Silly Milli is a really cute name for a kitten that did silly things. :D
I am not sure if filling the gap between two separate buildings with rubble and cement is a good solution... Apart from the fact that it will acoustically couple the two buildings (which will make you hear your neighbour use the hammer), it may cause issues later when one has to be brought down - as it is connected to its neighbour with cement.
Can you just put a net over the gap with a mesh fine enough to keep kittens and little birds at bay? This may be cheaper too...

Re: For the Animal lovers out there.. (Serious)
Gremlin thats awesome mate. I'm a cat lover and that is such a cutie.
But 2 weeks is so very young, she needs to be around her mum. You will have problems with her because she will never learn from another cat how to clean and groom herself, how to bury her droppings etc. Do you have any other cats?
-
Re: For the Animal lovers out there.. (Serious)
Wow! You are really kind to take care of the poor and defenseless kitty. Good work! :thumb:

Re: For the Animal lovers out there.. (Serious)
Poor kitten, but great job saving it.
I'm a cat lover myself. That one is very cute, I miss the days when my cats were small and cute, now they're fat and lazy. :D

Re: For the Animal lovers out there.. (Serious)
Just a update...
After having Milli for 2 days she is getting stonger and more playfull, also she sleeps almost through the night.. our doggies have even accepted her as a new part of the family (although we dont let them spend more than a few minutes a day with her)
Spot the sleeping kitty...
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r...mage_00033.jpghttp://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r...mage_00036.jpg
Even feeding has become easier... she sucks so hard that there is no need to press on the back of the syrindge. We need to look into getting a bigger one as she eats/drinks about 13ml of Kittymilk a feed and we sometimes battle to pull the syrindge out of her mouth to swop out with a full one...
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r...mage_00027.jpg
This has also become a big bonding factor between shaz and myself....
For more pics (i dont want to flood CG with them) Gremlins PhotoBucket..

Re: For the Animal lovers out there.. (Serious)
Great job :thumb: Now I think Milli has become part of CG too :D
Unfortunately not everyone (infact most of them) do not consider animal life at all, often brushing aside the fact that every animal (creature) on this planet has the same rights to exist as we do.

Re: For the Animal lovers out there.. (Serious)
Other good news...
My mom's kitty went missing the day before we found Milli... for the last week people have been saying they saw the cat here and there, but when we go to check - no sign....
This evening we found her sitting on the front wall, with another Kitty friend... My mom called Penny once and she came running. After a little milk and food, she started to play with us all. She acctually came back a much friendlier kitty.
So now everyone is happy...

Re: For the Animal lovers out there.. (Serious)
Off topic... Talking of kittens and pets.
I found a photo in my archives taken about 3 years back...
That was the time when I had moved into my new flat, and on the first night, I saw the little puppy (he is called Teddy) find someone his own size (a cat) at a distance. Being his friendly self, he galloped the great distance to make new friends, but the cat was not amused. She kept her ground and gave the puppy a good dirty look. Teddy's gallop slowed down to a toddle and finally when he reached the cat, he behaved as if he wasn't interested in any game at all.
This is when I take a step forward, both look at me, and I capture that moment...

Little hypnotists, aren't they - what with those sparkling eyes. :D

Gremmy, the photo you probably attempt to link at is not visible... Your post shows an advertisement of a hosting provider... Don't think that was intentional...

LOL David...
Well last night she decided the laptop was a nicer way to work.... Pity it was too dark to take a photo, but i'll get it next time...
I got long lines of 'cccccccccccc' or 'nnnnnnnnn' in some of my documents.. (lucky i keep backups ;) ) and everytime the screen blanked, she'd jump up on the keys to switch it back on...

This kitten was abandoned. Hanging around the trash bin behind where I work. It took about 6 people to catch it. I took him home and adopted him.
He is a mix of sweet lap kitty and ninja attack kitty. He is getting along well with the two cats I already had. He is still a little bit afraid of the two dogs.
The dogs like the Kitty.
His name is Falstaff.
Two photos attached.

Re: For the Animal lovers out there.. (Serious)
He looks really cute, and frisky too... :D

You know they have programs specifically designed to detect the pattern of a cat (or other animal) walking on the keyboard, and suppressing the keystrokes.... (seriously)

Hey man you're SO lucky... last time I let my cat walk in the keyboard I got something in the lines of "bcbvbgkljhgjhuiootiit" or somtng like that, from the lower row upwards, Clippo, a buzzy sound and a context menu... "True Randomness" is let a cat walk on keyboard, they say...
That's great you've taen care of Silly Milli, she's so beautiful. Here with my family we're kitten lovers, when my sister saw this thread she went all frenzy. I just go ballistic.
Congratulations, seriously man. What's a life's purpose beyond money and all those instantaneous satisfactions if you can not cherish other forms of life, etter if it's a beautiful little furry ball.

Its been two months now. We found out soon afterwards that there were three cats living around the trash dumpster here behind the building. Besides the kitten I caught, there was an older male and a young female (not a kitten but still young). Some of my coworkers have been feeding the two remaining cats. In the last two weeks we have captured them. The male has been neutered and is now living as a barn cat out at a farm. He gets fed and can stay in the barn when the weather gets cold.
This morning we caught the remaining female. I now have it in a dog crate in my basement with a bowl of water, food, a cat bed and a litter box. At 4pm today I have a veterinarian appointment for her. I've already got someone who wants to adopt her as an indoor cat once I've gotten her the requisite vacinations and gotten her fixed. This cat is fairly friendly. She loves to be petted but doesn't want to be picked up. Only semi-feral so with some work I think she'll be adoptable.
All three are grey tiger tabbies. They all look like the picture above of the first one we caught. The other two are just bigger. The youngster is a really sweet cat. Loves to sit in my lap while I read.

The only hitch at the vet was that the cat is 7 weeks pregnant. X-Rays show she is carrying 5 to 6 kittens and should deliver in about 2 weeks.
Up to my eyebrows in cats....picture attached.

Re: For the Animal lovers out there.. (Serious)
Some bad news but lots of good news too..
My moms cat 'Pen Pen' was Tragically killed by a reckless driver 2 weeks ago. Mom called her the 'Little $lut' because she liked to drift around the neibourhood at night (even after she was Fixed)..
But been Milly's only friend, Milly started to suffer been alone.. So we did the only thing we could, A visit to the local 'SPCA', where we found this poor little 4 month old Male Kitty..
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r...mage_00077.jpg
He was all alone in the cage, And we just had to take him...
It took Milly some time to get used to him but now they get on pretty well with each other
We decided to call him 'Garfield' .. All he basically does is eat and Sleep, And with the eating comes the Pooping, And Boy can he Fart...
Here are a few snaps of how he sleeps..
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r...mage_00285.jpghttp://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r...mage_00263.jpg
And if he cant get comfy on the pillows he will find something to keep himself warm..
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r...mage_00274.jpghttp://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r...mage_00280.jpg
Thats a plastic packet that he found and brought up onto the bed, climbed in, and promptly went to sleep..
You just have to love them..
Of course now my sleep is made a bit more difficult as both cats like to lay next to, or on top of me at night...
Gremmy....

Sorry to hear about the unfortunate cat.
:(
By the way, careful with those bags if they are air-tight plastic.

Sorry to hear of your cat. Too bad you don't live near me.
The stray we took in 2 weeks ago is extremely pregnant. You could have some of the kittens when she delivers in about 1 week.....
We'll be looking for homes for the kittens in about 9 weeks.

Re: For the Animal lovers out there.. (Serious)
Nice pics Tom!
I really love cats!
This "dude" strolled into our yard about 2 weeks ago. Now, we live on a farm, in the middle of nowhere! A few yards from us, there's a couple of houses for the farm workers. We suspected that their dog had puppies, and this one got lost. They didn't understand what we asked so, we decided to adopt the puppy ( if there were any issues with us having the dog, it would have come up already, isn't it? )
My dad initially wanted to call the dog froggy, because it looked like a frog, but we decided on the name of Spike.
You should see him prancing around, as if he owns the place!
Here are some photos, for anyone who may be interested :)

Saturday morning Frogdog left this evil world. I guess something bit him, perhaps a spider or scorpion ( these are quite common ), I honestly don't know. :(

Re: For the Animal lovers out there.. (Serious)
Sigh.
On the good side, I've found people to adopt all 4 kittens.
On the bad side, the kittens are leaving. Three are going today. The last one is leaving next Tuesday. The mother is going to her new home two days after that.
I'll be back to having 2 dogs and 3 cats from the momentary explosion of having 2 dogs and 8 cats.....

Quite fortunate.... me here, our eldest female kitten introduced to us 4 cute little furry balls 1 and 1/2 week ago. So now we have 4 humans, 7 in-house cats, and 5~8 out-house cats (all of them males who get to our yard to compete after Motita, the young mother, who essentially.... loves male affection).
Yeah, that's over 3:1 cats v/s humans in our house.
And, HanneSThEGreaT sorry to hear about your loss, I'm sure your partner at least enjoyed a month alongside compassionate and caring people like yoursef.
I'll try to upload photos of the 4 kittens, they were born overultradeveloped so they already have full fur coat and open eyes. And God they're noisy.
BTW, here's Motita, female, age ~11 months, aliases known: "Mota" (spanish for "woodball" I think), guilty passion: plead for food when the family is on the table, boyfriends known: 1, pretenders known: 4~6, her opinion on the subject: "that's beacuse aren't I pretty?"
http://informatica.temuco.udelmar.cl...otita-5872.jpg
She came to our lives as a kitten after being chased and drown for weeks by a bad kid, at first distrusted us, except for my sister who has a talent for cats, and over time she (Motita) has grown, became such a cute creature and she knows it. She's very quiet, calm but boy she sure knows how to stand her feet, she just won't leave the table until she's got a taste of what we're eating, be it meat, chocolate icecream, vegetables, pastas or peanuts.

That same kitty we rescued almost two years ago has become quite a little character.. I'm sure many of you are aware of CatNip .. it's supposed to make kitty happy, well she has no effect from catnip..
BUT.. wash anything in the house and she goes completely bonkers..
Watch her love a wet clean carpet while we were still busy washing it..

Our latest foster dog, Wink.
http://www.tfrohman.net/pictures/wink1.jpg
Four year old, 9 lb (~4kg), miniature poodle mix. He will be staying with us for about three weeks while he recovers from having an eye removed and a respiratory infection.
After that he will return to the animal shelter for adoption.

What a difference a week can make. These pictures were taken 7 days after the pictures above. He has recovered and is a lot more chipper looking. We'll keep him to the end of the week then he goes up for adoption at the shelter.
