MVP Global Summit in April
This is for the MVPs that plan to attend the MVP global summit in Seattle in April.
According to the official site, registration shall start this month:
Quote:
Registration to attend the MVP Global Summit will open in January 2008 and be accessible from this Web site.
I will be there and I think it would be good to know how many of you also plan to be there. Last year 4 of us managed to register for the same hotel, perhaps this year we can do better. ;) Of course, first we need to get the hotel list from Microsoft to decide where to stay (I found The Westin very good last year). But we should watch that web page and be prepared to register as soon as it opens to increase our chances of staying together.
BTW, I believe this year all hotels will be non-smoking.

Re: MVP Global Summit in April
I have few important projects scheduled for coming 6 months, so I would not be able to attend this year too :(
-
Re: MVP Global Summit in April
I heard that Microsoft stopped sponsoring the travel, is it true ?

I don't remember them paying for travel expencess (airplane, train, etc.).
Quote:
Travel
Microsoft will not be paying for any travel expenses for MVPs or RDs. If you are a Microsoft employee who needs to travel to this event, your department will be responsible for travel expenses.
But they do pay for accommodations (hotel, meals, parties :) )
Quote:
Accommodations
Microsoft has reserved several Seattle hotels for the MVP Global Summit. Attendees will be able to make their hotel reservations as part of the registration process.
Microsoft will be paying for hotel accommodations for MVPs and RDs for the nights of April 14, 15, 16, and 17, 2008, if the request is made during the registration process.
Please note that MVP Global Summit attendees are welcome to come early or extend their accommodations, but they will be responsible for related expenses. There will be a date range covering a series of days before and after the event that attendees can request to add on to their itinerary via the registration tool. As soon as we know the dates and the cost per night, we'll post that information here.
Perhaps you should read the FAQs: https://www.mvpsummit2008.com/public/faqs.aspx.

Re: MVP Global Summit in April
Last year they were paying some indian MVP's certain amount (300 USD or something) to assist the travel.
-
Re: MVP Global Summit in April
I see. I think that depends on the local subsidiary. In Romanian they didn't pay anything for traveling. But I remember Guido saying the same about the German MVPs being supported with a similar amount for the 2005 summit. I guess that depends on each Microsoft subsidiary's budget. I guess you should check that with your MVP lead.

Re: MVP Global Summit in April
I believe everything said to this point has been public information, but do remember that MVPs are under NDA with some information ;)
-----------------
I am currently planning to try to make the summit this year. If we can find out who else is planning on going, then I might try to get new Codeguru shirts or something made :)
Brad!

Re: MVP Global Summit in April
Not sure at this point. I've been meaning to go, but haven't been able to schedule it in.
-
Re: MVP Global Summit in April
Thank you for starting this thread, Marius. :)
I am planning to attend the Summit again this year (renomination provided, of course). Good idea about registering for the same hotel - I can only second Marius' recommendation of the Westin (I've been there twice, and don't know the other hotels, though).

Re: MVP Global Summit in April
OK Brad, I will be careful:
***********************************
*****************
**************************
After two times in the row, I am not sure I would be able to attend the summit this year. I will be able to make a decision about it in mid-March, hoping that if I will be able to attend, I will get a room in the same hotel as everybody. Of course, all of the above depends on terms mentioned by Guido.
For those who never attended a summit:
It is really exciting event because it gives one opportunity to meet people we have known for many years but have never met in person.
For example my first time I was looking forward to meet Brad and Guido (gstercken). It was the same pleasure meeting more code gurus the next time. Consider this, when making a decision to attend.
-
Re: MVP Global Summit in April
Guido, good news! We can go! This is what I found on this page:
Who can attend the MVP Global Summit?
The MVP Global Summit is an exclusive event for MVPs, Regional Directors (RDs), and Microsoft employees who work with MVPs and other influential technology users.
For this 2008 event, eligible MVP attendees are those who have been or will be awarded MVP status between April 2007 and April 2008.

Yes, I had seen that (shortly after making my post)... Nice gesture of MS, not to exclude the April re-nomination candidates. :)
I would be really glad to meet you again in Seattle, John... I hope you can make it.

That is great. I'm looking forward to meeting you there, again.
I am also in the April group and I feared I might not be eligible, but I read that some time ago on the site. So we don't have to worry about re-nomination for being able to attend.

I don't think we'll ever get in this thread to the point where the NDA should be taken in consideration. ;) This is just about planning to attend the summit.

Re: MVP Global Summit in April
Since I live only a few kilometers away from the summit, I think I might just mosey on over. :D

Is that tech talk for "PARTY AT ARJAY'S HOUSE!"? ;) :D
Brad!

Re: MVP Global Summit in April
and we have your IP, so how hard would it be to find it? ;)
-
Re: MVP Global Summit in April
Hmmm... I'll try to be there.
-
Re: MVP Global Summit in April
At this point, not sure if I'll be able to make it :( I'd love to be there, but it's a tradeoff for me since I have to use my limited vacation time to travel to India to spend time with family.
-
Re: MVP Global Summit in April
I'm also planning to go and trying to stay together in one hotel is a good idea :)

Yeah, they used to. 385 actually, I think. But that's not there this time. However, I hear there a day extra stay on sharing basis or something like that.
I won't be able to make it.
-
Re: MVP Global Summit in April
Well, I believe it would be exited to be there on this summit... And I'd like to be there!
But now I'm not sure I'll be able... I have to search for the new job now: our "huge" enterprise has decided to do away with our small developer department.

Re: MVP Global Summit in April
As added incentive, I would like to offer that I will buy a beer for anyone who attends (that responds to this post).

Cool, Arjay! Well, I'll be attending - and I'm responding to your post right now. ;) :)
And if you don't mind, I'll join in, and offer another beer for anyone in the intersection of the two sets you mentioned. :)
// You did mean the intersection, not the union set, right? ;)
-
Re: MVP Global Summit in April
Responding, but not sure if I can make it yet.

Well, it is a very good reason to attend!
Now I will undertake the additional steps to drink some beer with you, Arjay! :)

Responding... ;)
I guess I should then offer to buy the third round of beers and/or sodas. :D
Brad!

Hoping I will make it.

SODAS?
I didn't want to exclude those that prefer to avoid alcohol ;) If there aren't too many of us and there is an open evening, then I might swap my 'sodas and beer' for dinner instead.
Brad!

Dinner? :) Wow, last time you did that, Brad, it went exceptionally well... I still liveley remember that event (such a lovely Chinese restaurant...) . :thumb: :) // Ahem... I hope what I just said doesn't violate any NDA, or so... ? ;)

Responding... Should be some American beer, but not Alaskian. ;)

Re: MVP Global Summit in April
Guys, I'd love to meet you there... uh, physically :)
But it seems I cannot afford going abroad in the period. Really sorry. :(

Re: MVP Global Summit in April
Hi Folks,
Normally, I would be crazily active on such a thread, so, apologies for my absence. My activity load is to blame for my temporary lethargy on CG.
At this moment, I don't know if I can make it to Seattle in April. I do hope things work out, and will definitely keep you in the loop. Meeting you Codegurus was one the best parts of Summit 2007, and I would love to do it again. :thumb:
Cheers,
Sid!

I would like a drop of spring water.
Here is one Romanian saying:
Cea mai buna bautura
Este apa de izvor
Daca pui o picatura
Intr-o sticla cu lichior.
"the best drink is spring water if you add one drop in a bottle with liqueur."
:D ;)

However, I'd prefer a bottle of good Jack Daniel's whiskey rather than liqueur! ;)

"Liqueur" is just for the rhyme (izvor - lichior).
Can be whiskey, vodka, or tzuica as well... :)

Ahhh!
Then one shot of Jack Daniel's "Liqueur" from me for anyone who attends (that responds to this post). :D

Re: MVP Global Summit in April
:D :D
The way this thread is proceeding, I think we can expect a very tipsy Codeguru contingent at the MVP Summit 2008.

LOL!! "As usual", you were going to add? ;) :D

Why, are you indicating that I was a part of the tipsy contingent last year? :D :p

Re: MVP Global Summit in April
Has registration opened yet? The site says registration will be opened in January 2008, but I don't see where to register.

Well, I'll try to bring just one little bottle of "Lacrima lui Ovidiu".
Obviously, there is no danger to get everybody tipsy... :D ;)

Well, registration is not open yet and the site doesn't say anything else than "January 2008".

Re: MVP Global Summit in April
Check emails from your leads. There should be one with some dates listed in it.
Brad!

Re: MVP Global Summit in April
Hi, Brad!
I already did this but haven't found out any useful information except the link to www.mvpsummit2008.com
I sent e-mail to my MVP lead today with the question about the registration problem but have not got the reply yet.
-
Re: MVP Global Summit in April
OK, I've just received the reply from my lead:
Quote:
die Registrierung für den Summit ist auch noch nicht online. Ab dem 25.01. soll die Registrierung online gehen.
In a free translation it means:
"the online registration for the summit has not begun yet. It is expected to begin from the January, 25"
-
Re: MVP Global Summit in April
Update: Registration is now open (since January 21, 17:00 PST).
-
Re: MVP Global Summit in April
We're all targeting the Westin - Right?
Brad!
