System of a Down - *

I'm not entirely worthless. I can be used as a bad example.

Some of the Greatest Metal Albums...
CLASSIC METAL

Iron Maiden - Piece of Mind
Black Sabbath - Master Of Reality
DEATH METAL
Entombed - Left Hand Path
Dismember - Death Metal
EXTREME DEATH METAL
Cannibal Corpse - Live Cannibalism
Deeds Of Flesh - Reduced To Ashes

BLACK METAL
( The genre is not really worth listening to, but if albums that are representative of the genre would be... )
Immortal - Sons Of Northern Darkness
Mayhem - Live In Leipzig
Darkthrone - Transilvanian Hunger ( probably the best Black Metal album out there, which is not saying much though, black metal sucks )
POWER METAL
Manowar - Kings Of Metal ( Extremely Gay, but worthy of respect nonetheless)
Testament - Souls Of Black ( Almost belongs in the Thrash metal category )
No doubt someone will mention Rhapsody, etc... I won't list it here it sucks
THRASH METAL
Venom - Welcome To ****
Slayer - Reign In Blood
Metallica - Ride The Lightening

Re: Favorite metal albums
Were it not for the vocals I would probably like Kreator. A lot of the music that I really like is pretty heavily influenced by Kreator ( amoung others ) but those shreiking style thrash vocals just don't do it for me. I prefer more your typical American death-metal growl "cookie-monster" style vocals.

Re: Favorite metal albums
I used to listen to Testament, Slayer kinda stuff few years ago, not much anymore , though..
I used to be blown away how they could write songs which are heavy as well as soft.. like Testament's "ballad" and "Nostrovia" , these are friggin miles apart style-wise !!

Re: Favorite metal albums
I don't listen Slayer as much anymore either. Except I did listen to disk 1 of "Decade Of Aggression" while driving to work today -- very intense. One thing you should check out if you haven't already got it is Slayer's Still Reigning DVD. ( Link is my review of it ). To summarize, Slayer returns with original drummer Dave Lombardo, probably the greatest and most influential thrash drummer ever to record an amazing live performance of the entire "Reign In Blood" album. From "Angel Of Death" to "Raining Blood" they thrash like complete and total mad-apesh*t and when "Raining Blood" starts to play, blood rains down on the band as they thrash. It is completely exciting concert, leaves you needing to catch your breath. Its musical crack-cocaine. \m/
I purposefully left a lot of 80s hard rock bands out of the list that I also enjoy, because although it was considered metal at the time, I really no longer consider VanHalen, Motley Crue, Whitesnake, Ratt, etc... "metal". Do any of you guys enjoy that more 80s style ****-rock hair and glam metal ? I'll admit I like to listen to that sometimes.

Re: Favorite metal albums
Dream Theater - Metropolis, Scenes from NY and others; if you consider this as metal.

Sure. Their style leans more towards prog-metal.
