    Programatically Accessing Data

Hello everyone. To preface, I haven't programmed ASP in about 4 years and I am trying to "get back on the horse". I am building a league tracking website to help me get back into things with ASP. So far, I am just using gridviews with DataSources to display and update my data, which is stored in an Access database.

Now, however, I need to access pieces of information from one table and add it to another. For instance, when a user clicks to submit a game, I need to take the point value from the form, then pull the total points the player has accumulated from another table. Add the two together, and then update the table with it.

I know the solution has something to do with datasets, but I cannot figure out how to get it to work. Can anyone explain datasets or link to a good tutorial? Every source I find on google is regarding desktop apps, which I can't seem to make work for my web app.

I appreciate any help you can provide.

    Thank you
