Arrow PHP vs ASP.NET - Project Manager

If you have a company, are you willing to hire a solely experienced ASP.NET to work as a project manager for PHP projects AND vice versa, a solely experienced PHP to be a PM for ASP.NET projects ? Why ?

Re: PHP vs ASP.NET - Project Manager

Well, what do you considder a project manager?

In my opinion, it really doesn't matter as it is not the function/role of the project manager to be dealing with the technical details. The program manager should only be worried about getting what he wants, by delegating the techinical aspects to the specialists. The project manager would be dealing with the (for instance) manager of the ASP development team, to make sure that the ASP development team returns him a piece of software that is within the specifications he defined. How they do this, is not the project managers' concern.

If the project manager *is* the manager of the team that will be doing the actual work, you are at risk of running into conflicts of interests, as the PM will need to defend both the interest of the business (=customer), as those of his own group (=supplier). I do know that is smaller organisations, they tend to make a senior group member the PM (or accountable person) for the project, but really they shouldn't.

So to answer your question: yes, I would be willing to hire a experienced ASP.Net person for a PHP project to manage the project, but only if this person has convinced me of his project management skills. What I would definitely not do, is hire this person to be the head of the PHP development group, as that role would require an extensive level of expertise in that particular area.

    It depends,
I would hire people of long years of experience in ASP.NET or any other web techs for PHP project manager position as long as they could show me they actually do the job. If I have money, much, alot, I suggest myself to do something for cancer patients, especially cancer children.
