Learning XHTML (transitional)

I would like to get hold of some resources which i can utilise to learn XHTML 1.0 (transitional). What is the best place to look for. w3schools doesnt have it

xhtml is just html that's got a few extra restrictions to make it xml valid.
such as requiring each element to be closed, and to be balanced (among others). or in a more broader sence, to require the html to be xml well formed.

if you make "clean" html, it's going to be xhtml valid as well.
unfortunately the designers of html5 decided AGAINST making it xml compliant as well and instead you have an xhtml5 spec. A lot of html5 out there is xhtml valid (the kind generated by an htmleditor usually is) even if the doctype doesn't specify it as such. just don't assume it's always going to be.

W3Schools does. If you look at the menu under HTML, you will see it as the last item in the first grouping.
