Re: Problem with Visual C++ on a new computer
I posted the link in my post #14 to where to obtain the free VS 2015. Go to that site and click the 'Download Community Free' button. Execute the referenced .exe.
All advice is offered in good faith only. All my code is tested (unless stated explicitly otherwise) with the latest version of Microsoft Visual Studio (using the supported features of the latest standard) and is offered as examples only - not as production quality. I cannot offer advice regarding any other c/c++ compiler/IDE or incompatibilities with VS. Re: Problem with Visual C++ on a new computer
I have downloaded vs_community_ENU.exe , and its description says "Find tutorials, samples, and documentation to help you start coding.". Does this include the Visual C++ compiler?

Re: Problem with Visual C++ on a new computer
Run that .exe. That starts the VS 2015 install process. It will download as part of the install process additional files as needed.

Don't worry, after solving the installation problems, the coding in C++ part will be easy.

Re: Problem with Visual C++ on a new computer
Thanks. I at last have a Visual Studio 2015 icon on my desktop.
When I have got it working, next to struggle with the complications of publishing it, if I think that it is worth publishing it.
How long does it take a published app to be approved?
What modes should I compile it in for publishing? Now I know why e.g. Paintshop Pro is published in 32 and 64 byte versions.
Things were easier in DOS days, when I programmed in the Gnu C for DOS that the Gnu Project formerly ran. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU_Project

PC applications have no approval process, you can create and publish anyway you see fit.

32 and 64 byte versions? Whow!
If your program doesn't need the features of 64-bit, just producing a 32-bit version will be OK. This will run on both 64 and 32 bit versions of Windows.

Re: Problem with Visual C++ on a new computer
I am extremely sorry to trouble you yet again, but, now on my tower PC, I have downloaded https://www.visualstudio.com/downloa...sual-studio-vs as in message #14, and called it as advised, and it downloaded and installed a lot of matter, but there is still no icon on my tower PC's desktop to call Visual C++, and a search through the whole computer for files named vc*.exe shows nothing relevant.

Re: Problem with Visual C++ on a new computer
If you have installed VS2015 then you should have folders C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 14.0\
The target for VS2015 is "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 14.0\Common7\IDE\devenv.exe"
Installing VS2015 doesn't put an icon on the desktop - you invoke it from the start button.
